I know it has caffeine in it but I drink it maybe once a week, I am drinking right now a 20 0z bottle of cherry coke. Somebody told me caffeine can cause miscarriage is this true? and how much (milligrams or percent) of caffeine is safe to consume per day for pregnant women? Doctors have told me 1 cup of coffee is okay, but no more than that. But this is variant information bc some coffee is more potent than others and some cups are larger or smaller, and what about a 20 oz bottle of coke?

I know this is going to get alot of thumbs down but coke is all I ever drink and when I was pregnant with my kids (1984, 1986, and 1987) I drank coke everyday, all day long. Now I would sqeeze a couple glasses of milk in everyday but the rest were coke. My kids were born healthy. So I say drink away as long as you get some milk in there too. Congrats.

It's not that bad at all. There's nothing wrong with indulging yourself a little bit. When I was pregnant with my boys I'd have a coke or two per week also. Caffeine during pregnancy is safe as long as it's in moderation. And actually a pregnant woman can drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day (which has way more caffeine than your average soda) and it is still considered to be safe. Don't feel guilty! It isn't going to hurt your baby and you sound like you're doing a great job nutrition wise.

Don't sweat it.

Guidelines issued by the Food Standards Agency recommend that women have no more than 300mg of caffeine a day while pregnant. This is equivalent to three mugs of instant coffee or six cups of tea or eight cans of cola per day. Although moderate amounts of caffeine are unlikely to harm you or your unborn baby, some women choose to cut out caffeine completely.
No one really knows for sure, but research suggests that consistently having more that 300mg of caffeine per day could be related to a higher risk of low birthweight, miscarriage and birth defects, such as cleft palate.

Some research has failed to take into account other risk factors, such as smoking and alcohol intake, which can also lead to complications in pregnancy, labour, and delivery. However, it still seems sensible to stick to moderate amounts of caffeine while pregnant.

Oh, it's fine! Just drink it in moderation. With my first pregnancy, my nutriontist told me if I was use to drinking pop/caffeine daily NOT to quit drinking it, and limit it to no more then 2 cans a day, just because quitting cold turkey can cause major migraines during pregnancy...if your only drinking it once a week, then your doing just fine..there's a lot worse things women consume while pregnant..

i am practically addicted to cherry coke lately! and no, cherry pepsi will not do! up to 300 milligrams of caffeine per day is fine. just remember that its also in choclate and teas, as wll as coffee and sodas. here is a great website that tells you how much caffeine is in some popular drinks: http://wilstar.com/caffeine.htm. just do the math. according to this site, 12 oz. of cherry coke has 34 mg of caffeine. and depending on what kind of coffee you drink, brewed coffee has the most caffeine believe it or not--up to 200 mg per 12 ounce cup. also check out starbucks website--on the nutrition info, they now list caffeine content of each drink.

what i did for my cherry coke fix was buy the cans of caffeine free coke and a bottle of cherry flavored syrup and made my own
but it is safe to have the equivalent of 2 (8 oz) cups of coffee a day so one 12 oz coke a day is safe but stay away from vault and mountain dew b/c they are loaded with caffeine
and it won't cause a miscarriage it only causes low birth weight and increases the risk of ADD and ADHD
what you really need to stay away from is diet sodas and artificial sweetners
nutrasweet/equal can cause birth defects (in large amounts, but it's better not to risk it) and there is a rare genetic disease called PKU and if your baby has it nutrasweet could kill it

one coke every once in awhile is not bad. i drink a diet coke everyday (which i wouldn't recommend) as long as you drink plenty of water along with it. caffeine uses up water and could dehydrate you. i believe you are allowed 300 mg of caffeine a day and wanna say a coke only has 40 or so.

i have seen from one to three caffeinated drinks a day are fine. I drank coffee and diet coke throughout my pregnancy and i think the coke and diet coke are worse that coffee. sugar in coke and aspartame in diet drinks is really bad for you but it wont make you miscarry. Aspartame is controversial and some say it may be a carcinogen. I wont be drinking diet coke during my next pregnancy, but I will drink coffee!
