For the past few days, whenever I double clicked on Firefox to start it, the window didn't open. The Task Manager shows that the process has started, but the window will never come up. What's going on?

In my opinion you have not it made it your default browser, so possibly there is a software clash, and the Internet explorer will open up.
If you have made it your default browser, and it's not working, than reinstall it.

You may have deleted some files on your computer you should not have.
