He's a year old, and his name is Arthur David William Painter

"Arthur" after King Arthur (I'm Welsh and his dad is English and we King Arthur was King of the Ancient Britons so we felt it reflected his heritage!). We thought it was a strong, manly sounding name that rolls nicely off the tongue. It was also my partner's grandfather's name and my grannie's brother's name so has family connections.

David and William are his two uncles - David is my partner's brother and William is my brother.

What sort of person does "Arthur Painter" sound like to you? My mum said it sounded like a Plumber, which upset me because I dream of him being rich and successful when he grows up!

She thinks Painter (my other half's surname) is a very "working class" sounding name, lol we are working class as they come so I don't know what she's complaining about!!!

I love the name Arthur! It doesn't really sound like the local plumber at all lol. To me, it sounds like a really intelligent guy, mostly because Arthur is a name steeped in such history.

It's probably just the Painter that throws your mom off lol. lol sorry about this, but I just realized if Arthur used the nickname Art, he'd be Art Painter! That's just awesome, and there's nothing wrong with him becoming an artist or something, which is what Art Painter puts into mind lol.

If you want your kid to go to business school or something, he could also always use AD Painter as his professional name. But don't worry, with all the thought that you guys put into his name, I'm sure you guys are great parents and he'll turn out fine and successful.

It sounds like a good solid name. I don't actually know anyone called Arthur who is under sixty, but names tend to go in cycles so in a few years it will probably come more into fashion again.
David and William are both good middle names. If he ever does decide to use his middle name instead of his first name (as a writer's pen-name for example) Dave and Will are both nice names.
On a personal note I personally believe it is better to encourage children to aspire to happiness rather than wealth or financial success.

Congratulations on your son and have a wonderful Christmas.

To be honest I don't particularly like the name Arthur it sounds a bit old fashioned and I just can't imagine a teenager being called Arthur but that's just me!

But everyone has different preferences that is why there are so many different names about!!!

Yes, it's a grand british name.
My only concern is that when the young pup goes to school, unless he is surrounded by Henrys, Olivers and suchlike, he may get the micky taken out of him. Posh names don't go down well in the average playground.
Also, its not a name for a baby, but an 80 year old.
But, I like it. And as long as you do, who else matters?

Painter is a good strong name. But everyone is going to shorten his first name, so give him a nickname now. Call him Artie. That way no one will call him Art Painter.

Blimey, if my son becomes a plumber I'll be well pleased about that, they can earn £50 an hour if they work with gas appliances.

Well the name to me is a little old fashioned and not very adventurous.

However do not be put of by your mum or anyone elses opinion, because this is your baby, not anyone elses. So stick to what you want to do! Then you can be proud that you named him.
