What does she mean its an "old" name?
All names are old. How "old" does she think names like Jack, Joshua, Emily, etc are? Well Joshua was in the Bible so its over 2,000 years old!! And these names are really popular today!
What she probably means is that its not a fashionable name, but who cares about that! My son is one year old and is named Arthur. Unusual today, I know, but we loved it. A few people told me it was "too old fashioned" and why didn't I pick a "trendier" alternative like Archie, Alfie etc. I ignored them. I want my son to have a name that will last his lifetime, not some silly fashion fad that will date horribly within a few years.
If you like Beatrice go for it. I think its lovely. You can call her Bea for short.

Its somewhat wonderful you want to honour grandparents. i actual desire to do an analogous. Beatrice, even although previous formed is gorgeous and would nicely be shortened to Bea. Naming your daughter that exhibits gratitude on your grandmother and creates a stunning nickname. Myself, I constantly loved the call Cecelia. Cecelia Beatrice? Ava Beatrice? Abigail Beatrice? Samantha Beatrice? Eva Beatrice? i'm looking this somewhat perplexing. So why not try making Beatrice the 1st call? solid luck!

I LOVE the name Beatrice! It's just so sweet and beautiful. If you guys really like it, I'd definitely go for it.
I think the reason a lot of 'older' people (not saying your aunt is like ancient, lol) dislike names like Beatrice is because they were popular among their elders when they were young. Naming cycles however are catching up - names like Ava and Elsie are becoming really popular, and I'll bet if you asked your aunts what they thought of Elsie or Edie, they'd hate them too. In fifty years or so, names like Nancy or Helen might become the new Mackenzie and Madison!
But Beatrice is such a pretty name, and I just love the sound of the nickname Bea (Bee-ah). That kind of name won't get a kid teased, not when she's in the company of about a million Jaidon's, Neveah's and Mikayla's lol, kids who'll barely even be able to spell their own names. It's your kid anyway, not your aunt's or your sister's, so it's your choice.
Have you thought of middle names yet? Maybe you could pair it with a name that might appease some of them, like Beatrice Lily or Beatrice Kate.
Good luck and congrats!!

well i think its a nice name. Beatrices has really come back in the name stakes. so what if its an old name. I went to school with a girl that was a Beatrices, she didn't like it so named herself Bebe. and that made her a very popular girl in the school. (due to the fact no one else was called Bebe she was the 'One and only') also i know a girl now and they call her bea for short. very swwet for a little girl. and when shes a teenager she can call herself bebe.

You are totally right in naming YOUR child whatever you please...
I have to be honest..I don't really care for the name myself, BUT that kinda stems from knowing a Beatrice who was/is a complete ***** (sorry so blunt, but she is) of course that doesn't mean your Beatrice would be one too lol
No matter who likes it or who doesn't.. ALL That matters is that YOU and your hubby likes it! Good luck to you all and congratulations on your little girl Beatrice (soon to be born!)
Take care =)

I love Beatrice, but so many people have told me not to do that to my child, to name them such a thing. But I like it a lot. It's French and Italian meaning is "brings happiness" and "joyful".
My suggestion is to maybe think of a more common middle name for her, so if when your child is older she can decide if she wants to use Beatrice or not. I like Beatrice Katherine/Kate, Beatrice Evelyn, Beatrice Lilah and Beatrice Wynd. Also, come up with some nicknames you can call her to give her more options. You could help me out with this too, cause I can't think of any short names for Beatrice either! Except for Bea, I like that one. Do you like it?
Vote on my list, thanks! http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9388328

I love it! Don't listen to your family, if they're going to be so rude they obviously haven't matured enough to realize what a classy name it is. And I am soooo sick of the whole "it's an old lady name" comeback, it's like they don't plan on their kids growing up, just think about it, when your girl is grown up herself she'll be taken seriously, unlike all the McKenna Jades.

Beatrice has got to be the most horrible name imaginable. It's so outdated and old-fashioned, it's ugly, it's guttural.
I hate that name with a passion...and guess what!? So does anyone else with any freaking sense of how to name a baby!
DO NOT INFLICT THAT AWFUL NAME ON A SWEET LITTLE BABY.
