I strongly disagree they are 2nd a little ahead of the Indians because even though they have the most prolific offense on paper, the pitching is subpar...

Verlander is a solid #2 starter, but no ace, you wouldn't put him with the Becketts, Sbathias, and Santanas of the world. Kenny Rogers is 40, and the overpaid "D-TRAIN" is unproven, have a 5+ ERA in the National League, it only gets tougher in the AL.

It gets worse in the bullpen, Todd Jones is an average closer, who gives up alot of hits and little strike outs. The set-up man, Zumaya is out wiht shoulder injury for the entire season, the rest of the BP is crap.

If Cleveland gets an established closer or the Yankees get Santana, teh TIgers go to third in the AL, because offense will win you 90+ games, but pitching wins you championships.

Well considering the team also consists of a pitching staff and I would not consider their pitching staff to be as good as the Red Sox I would say on paper I would put the team number two behind the Red Sox...if you are looking at purely line-up I would say an argument could be made for either the Tigers or the Yankees as having the best lineup...I would say the Tigers have the best lineup on paper...but not the best team.

On paper never wins the world series. Yankees of last year on paper was the best team. Pitching is the key to Tigers success this year. The need one more starter and some long relief. Angels, Sox's, Yankees, and Indians. What a great year for the American Leauge. One last thing, Leyland is one great manager. Best playoffs ever in 08.

Agreed. Now if their pitching can hold up, and their bullpen stays healthy, I see a good chance at the tigers getting back to the world series and finishing the job. That is unless the Red Sox have something to say about it, but at the moment, there isn't a team in the NL that could come close to the Sox and Tigs.

False!

Red Sox: More depth at Starting, and healthier bullpen. Better defensive team, but Detroit might have a better offense by a little bit.

Marcus Thames is not starting. It will be Jacque Jones in Left Field.

I think its still too early to tell which team will be the best in 2008. The Tigers have a very solid roster and I think they'll do great. I'm looking forward to seeing how some of the new players adjust to the Detroit environment and how they all play as a team.

I believe based on that line up they are still #3 behind the Yankees (1) & RED SOX (2) hitting line ups.
But I believe they will take the AL central this year, no doubt!

Disagreee.
The RedSox and the Yankees both have better teams - on paper. And if the Red Sox or Yankees get Santana they'll be the Champs next year.
