All Windows computers need virus, and anti-spyware protection. And lots of it!

For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free for life!

BTW, Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG, it has horrible virus detection capibilities.

For an anti-spyware, I suggest the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware:

And be sure that your built-in Windows Firewall is enabled. Windows Firewall is not very good, but it's better then nothing.

Enjoy!

All computers need antivirus protection with auto updates. I use Norton Antivrus. If you want a free antivirus, I also use AVG on the kids computers.
