Frankly, I have not heard of a SINGLE person who ever reported this. Cats prefer to avoid babies. They sniff them and then stay away.

I don't own any cats now, but my parents have 3 and my babies have all stayed there at different times, and none of the cats even cared about the babies, that is a total myth/wives tale. Cats do not smother babies either.

Nope - i have 3 cats and I don't think you could get them in the cot when my boy is in there if you smeared him in raw steak and catnip. At first they were afraid of him and now he grabs at them and pinches them so they want nothing to do with him.
However when he isn't in the crib that's a different story. I have one cat that is being stubborn right now and my last spray bottle broke so I've been chasing him out of the crib everytime I go up there but he's just not getting it.

My cat was actually scared of my daughter. He has never tried to get in bed with her at all. At first he was jealous because he wasn't getting all the attention. But, then when we started giving him attention he just acted normal again and went on with his normal activities (well, sleep all day haha). But, it depends on the cat. All cats are different.

I have two cats and our baby isn't born yet.
BUT, My mom told me that when she had her first child their cat had kittens and they gave her a box for her litter of kittens. Well, the mommy cat picked them each up one by one and put the babies in the crib with the human baby.
Isn't that cute!!?

Not mine. Most cats just run away. Babies are noisy and annoying to them :-)
ETA: A friend of mine also told me my cat would try to "take the baby's breath. Just so you know- it's hogwash
