I think his bill should reflect the inconvenience and defamation of character he has suffered.

Wow, that's cra@p; he should call to her house and tell her, quietly, that she has almost ruined his life.

Once, I challenged a woman who complained to my boss that I had been rude to her; I used to deliver food for a takeaway - this lady had no change - she offered me a 100 quid note for a 7 quid delivery; I told her I didn't carry that sort of money& I was very sorry...but she wanted me to give her the food anyway, and come back later for the money. So I said no way...I'll give you the food and take the money and go get change...but she wasn't having that ..so I said sorry, no money, no food...and suddenly she found a ten quid note!!

But she rang my boss and said I'd been rude to her...so on the next run, I called back to the house and asked her..
"in what way did you think I was rude to you?"
Noy only could she not answer that, she ended up apologising.
Your mate should chase this one up.

Your colleague has grounds for a lawsuit.
He should at the very least be offered a public
apology and compensated for time lost,
and probably some allowance for emotional distress.
Unless there is something you have'nt told us,
he would probably be awarded 'costs` as well
if it came to trial.
BTW The demand for compensation or suing
would probably guarantee that the kick in the
a** is delivered.

My husband has to deal with those women alot. The ones that complain about everything and refuse to give an inch. I am assuming that you and the colleague are involved in one the trades. My husband renovates and paints big richy homes now but years ago it was more middle class houses...it's the women that have money that drive him nuts. The more money they have the bitchier they are. Glad it worked out your colleagues favor....:)

Seems to me he ought to call a lawyer. I hope he didn't return to finish that job. Heck, if it were me I wouldn't even bother charging for the time spent for setup. Just leave, and stay the **** away!
Sucks he got tangled up in that.

She should have had enough sense to actually LOOK for it first.. before calling the cops like that. How awful! She owes him a serious apology.. That's just so terrible.

What are you asking?

I think in terms of over reaction then yes it's obvious.

If you are asking what your friend should do, then that's a different answer all together. He either sues the woman for slanderous accusations or asks her to publish an apolgy add in the local newspaper!

Your mate has been wrongly accused, wrongly arrested and insulted beyond belief.

Well I certainly would suggest that he doesn't step foot into her home again. I would contact a lawyer and see if it is worth it to sue the b itch.
