Does Samar sound masculine or feminine in the US. We were thinking about that name as a option for our son. The short for that name would be Sam but real name would be Samar.

Thanks

I guess it's okay for either. I like it better as a girl, but if you are going to have the option of Sam then use it for a boy.

I am assuming you live somewhere outside the US and that your last name is foreign to Americans. Everyone will mispronounce Samar, but I love the name enough that I think it would be worth it. For a son it's beautiful, but I would call him Samar, not Sam. Sam is a washed-out too old very used name in US.

Naming your son Samar and calling him Sam would be fine for a boy in the U.S. Some girls are called Sami (Sam-e) for short if their name is Samantha. If the pronunciation is more like Summer for your son, then it will most likely sound like a girl's name in the U.S. but will not look that way.

Sounds like the name from India. I feel that the name sounds like a boy's name

"Say-mar" looks Indian. It could go either way with that spelling.

If you rhyme it with slammer, you prolly should change the spelling to Sammer. It looks less ethnic that way and looks more masculine.
