The US is not likely to abandon its current measurement system in favor of metric. Not because of the "stupidity" suggested by some ignorant fool, but because of dollars and cents. It would be a tremendous cost burden to convert/retrofit all of the machinery involved in automated manufacturing of just about everything. Also, the people that benefit the most from the metric system (scientists) already use it.

We can probably gauge the progress toward this goal of converting to the metric system when we realize that there is a government agency that has been established for precisely this goal; it was set up in 1896.

Certainly not, The USA is a stupid country and as such uses a stupid system of measurement. They are also prone to not change towards the better... So... No. Most likely anyways.
come on people this is an obvious response to the answer right before mine, , just a joke.

Probably not, sadly, The USA is a unique country and as such uses a unique system of measurement. We are also prone to not changing... So... No. Most likely anyways.

Eventually, when we use up all the existing machinery and spare parts that were built to the English system, that still need to be furnished for all of the equipment that we require to support our way of life.
You cannot all of a sudden make every machine tool and every piece of heavy equipment in the country obsolete and bring all of our industies to screeching halt just because some purist scientific genius wanna-be puke needs to be like every one else in the world.
(even when every one else wants to be like us).

Hopefully they do.
The metric system is a linear system, and much easier to use as opposed to the Imperial system.

we use both so technically it has already been adopted
it is "totally" adopted, do you live under a rock? there are things like converters online where you can convert miles to km if it's such a big problem for you ... and for the guy that said usa is stupid.. wow sorry but thats very ignorant!
