Right now today, No, but the brightest future, probably. Right now i'd have to say Lecalvier, or Iginla, both have phenominal seasons year after year, Crosby will someday be up there with Grezkty and Lemieux and Orr, but today not yet, if he stays healthy and plays like he has been he could possibly be the best player ever. But not yet.

People always leave out defenders...

The best player in hockey right now is Lidstrom. With apologies to Niedermayer and Pronger, nobody has dominated a position like he has over the last few years. He's been the best defenseman pretty much every year running for the last 6 seasons...

Crosby probably has the most talent of anyone playing in the league right now. Talent only gets you so far and until Pittsburgh can get some quality defencemen and a goalie Sid's gonna be great but not win a Stanley Cup. And before you all start bashing my answer I'm a Pens fan.

Crosby's an amazing player but there are other players playing better then him in the league right now. I'm not saying anything bad about Sidney Crosby, but right now in the league Hennrik Zetterberg is playing far better then he is as are a few other players. I think Crosby will be one of the best players ever, but at the moment he isn't the greatest thing on skates.

Vinny Lecavelier is a way better player. Vinny has 53 points and 20 multi-point games (as of DEC, 22) and Crosby only has 47 points.

Best player for making money? Yes, he fills the rinks with butts and gets the endorsement deals, brings publicity and dollars to the NHL and the average person on the street knows his name, unlike the great quality players mentioned like Zetterberg or Lecavalier. He's one of the top 10 as far as playing ability goes. It remains to be seen if he will maintain or improve his current status. Gretzky lived up to the hype, Crosby hasn't, yet.

Henrik Zetterburg.

Best all around player in hockey. Sidney Crosby is the Lebron James of the NHL. They want him to be this superstar, so they hype him up. In my opinion, he's one of, if not the most, over rated player in the league. Don't get me wrong, the kids got talent, but best in show? No way. Not by a long shot.

It's debatable, but I'd say Lecavalier is the favorite for the Hart Trophy as we're almost half way through the season.

But Crosby could change that if he the Penguins make a deal that gives him a stronger player to play on his line with him.

no he is the most over rated player in the nhl right now there are much better players but after 2010 he very well could be.

He's an excellent player but he's still not in the same class of Jarome Iginla, Joe Thornton, and Vincent Lecavalier.

And I dare say old dogs like Sakic, Roenick, Shanahan, and Modano could teach the kid a few tricks or two.

If he continues to progress at his current rate, he'll be the udisputed (Capitals fans notwithstanding) best player in the league by the time the 2010 Olympics roll around
