40 weeks is the correct amount for pregnancy. My doctor told me anything after 38 weeks is considered term. But I have heard other people say 37 weeks. Also, consider the first four weeks, two of them you aren't actually pregnant; the other two you don't probably know!! You usually know after missing your first period, which would be around 4 to 5 weeks pregnant! :) (Also, my son was born at 36 weeks and considered premature).

A pregnancy is suppose to last 40 weeks but not really because they add the 2 weeks between your LMP and your conception date. It's weird, so actually it's 38 weeks. P.S. Never count the months... counting by the week is way more acurate.

There's quite a bit of variation in that of course, a perfectly healthy baby could be born at a week or two before or after 40 weeks. The only time you might want to be concerned if it is more than a month either way.

Full term pregnancy is bettween 37-40 weeks not exactly 40 weeks. If you have a baby at 37 weeks they still consider it full term.

You're due date is at 40 weeks and 37 is considered full term. But there is only one month with exactly 4 weeks(most years) so it still is about 9 months.

As it's actually more 4 1/3 weeks per month, it's not actually 36 weeks to 9 months. 9 months is 39 weeks. (52/12*9)

Also doctors measure from date of last period, although conception tends to be approx 2 weeks later, so although 39 weeks is the "nominal" term, it's really more 37 "real pregnancy"

When you take 40 weeks see how long it is, it is actually 9 calendar months. February is the only month that has exactly 4 weeks in it. Every other month goes 2 to 3 days over. You are pregnant for 40 weeks and 9 calendar months.

In Australia when your 37 weeks you are considered full-term.
If you check the book " What to Expect When you are Expecting" they also say that 37 weeks is considered full term.

Also marjority of first time pregnancy's are late but my first was 1 week early and 8.5 pounds.

Docs actually consider 37 weeks full term. But they let your pregnancy continue to 40 weeks as it gives baby more time to mature.
