Punitiveness, judgementalism, self-righteousness, illogicality, semi-literacy, literal-mindedness--there seems to be so much of that stuff on this forum. Is the educational system to blame, or what? How can a democracy function without a sophisticated electorate?

Well US democracy doesn't.

If education is a commodity to be bought then only rich kids get a good education. If you prize fundamentalist religion over vigorous education then you will get judgementalism and ignorance. If you value belongings over personal qualities, then you won't encourage good personal development only aquisitiveness.

If you can buy the Presidency then you don't have a democracy. If election to public office relies on how much money you have then it isn't democratic ...is it? If your electorate are so politically ignorant and uneducated that they can't see through the propaganda and the lies, then you get away with buying the country. I have no idea what that is called but it isn't democracy.

The cause of all those symptoms of society is the individual themselves.
As for the democratic system it only works part time. Even then it doesn't work all that well, but it's the best we have right now. Despite the ignorance in the electorate we seem to muddle right through to the next election.
It's dysfunctional but we manage.

Democracy is a monopoly of power of the rich over the poor because it comes with capitalism which is infinitely unjust.

You forgot the most important one, which it sounds like you need to be careful of, and that is egotism... Try acceptance.
