they are pretty much evenly matched.
my choice would be the 8600 tho..just because its a newer product.
and lower power requirements

I'd say the 8600 GT, I bought and 8600 GT and it is amazing, like the first guy said go to tomshardware.com and you can compare the cards and games. The website is at the bottom.

See tom's hardware for reviews, they line 'em up and compare, but my first guess is go with the nvidia, they've been quieter, cooler and better lately.

8600gt is fatser, 2600xt is cheaper in price. the 2600xt is only a tad bit slower that the 8600gt.
