I have a bit of a problem with my 1995 honda accord lx: the gas milage sucks! last tank of about 15 gallons, i didnt even get 200 miles. now, my tank is 3/4 done and im only at 95 miles. I live in the Chicago land area and the whether has been pretty cold around here, but i didnt think that it would kill my gas milage like that. I didnt get such bad milage last year, this is just making me mad. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do. My check engine light isnt on and the car seems to be acting normally. Someone please help! thanks in advance.

When the MPG drops the first suspect is the water temp sensor. A bad water temp sensor will made the MPG go bad yet the check engine light will not come on. Water temp sensor is fairly easy and cheap to fix. The reason is that water temp sensor tells the computer that the car is COLD or not warmed up. And if the car is NOT warmed up, then it has to run RICH (like as if the choke was on).
The next two are O2 sensor and MAF sensor (but often these makes the check engine light to come on - but not always).
Don't go chasing bad MPG unless you are sure of it. You could be spending time and money chasing ghosts. So try this experiment first:
(a) fill the tank to the max
(b) get on the HWY - late night / no traffic hour
(c) drive about 20 to 30 miles (at 55 MPH)
(d) use cruise control - very important
(e) note the EXACT MILES
(f) get off and immediately get gas
(g) note the EXACT GALLONS
Now you can calculate the MPG by
MPG = MILES (step e) / GALLONS (step g).
The reason you start out with full tank is that is the "repeateable" condition. You want to avoid traffic so you don't use the brakes on the HWY. Braking will negatively affect the MPG calculation. You use the cruise control so you and eliminate your driving habit as a factor.
Without a good MPG calculation you might be wasting your money chasing ghosts. Also you can repeat this test anytime you feel like you car is not running right. You can also try the same thing but off the cruise control to check how much your driving habit affect the MPG. etc.

Once you have the BASE LINE MPG, then you can measure it again to make sure the new sensors FIXED the problem.
Good Luck.

You should get good mileage with that model. maybe try getting gas at a different station than you normally do, or change your oil to a synthetic type to reduce friction,we are talking about a vehicle that has some age on it here,1995 was a while ago, haha. lets see..try a tune up,(plugs, wires, etc) that might help. maybe try changing the transmission fluid too, that could effect the mileage also if the fluid is old,the transmission could be running too warm most of the time. bad mileage is one of the signs of a worn engine,so good luck,,hope I gave you some ideas....

*sigh*
Someone could be stealing it.
But if they aren't then:
If you're constantly stopping and going that's going to rob your mileage...
Try not to be really hard on acceleration.
If you already have good driving habits then...
air up your tires right
Get a Tune-up
Change Plugs/wires
Get a new air filter
If you have a bunch of crap in your car then get rid of it...
And lastly...if it's a accord then it's bound to have a 4cyl. and you will not get any better that 15-20 mpg on the highway unless you draft off of a semi or something...

when I save for automobiles, i look for people who have approximately 10,000 miles a three hundred and sixty 5 days on them in the previous i might even evaluate them. something extra extra perfect tutor workplace work(receipts) of a present day motor-interest in any different case they are in a position to maintain their piece of crap(as a results of fact all which would be needed presently). you have double that. uncommon are the two's no longer to point 3's. lots of it relies upon on many times servicing it. you already know how plenty you do this. And holding on authentic of each and every little ailment the motor vehicle has. It additionally relies upon on highway situations - gravel vs.paved highway. One you will force in decrease gears(even interior an computerized transmission it shifts to a decrease kit as call for variations whether that decision for is a velocity help) and atmospheric situations play an element(airborne dirt and mud typhoon, flooding,) in my opinion, i might have my motor vehicle thoroughly checked over via a qualified Honda mechanic interior the save at one hundred,000 as a results of fact the motor vehicle does no longer might desire to bypass any farther than that. many don't even attain that distance in the previous they are highway kill.(blown motor, blown tranny, blown differential, electric has long previous for a chitter, steerage factors are wiped out, etc.
