This is not really a subject for the other faiths except for the one he was christened into and the one he has just been allowed into - but all are free to comment. As a Roman Catholic i feel badly let down that this lying toadying toe rag has been allowed into the Church. I could not believe my eyes a couple of years ago when i saw him go to the altar and receive holy communion with his family. As a non-catholic he was not allowed to do that, but did so for the cameras! What does that tell any of us who are trying to bring up our children properly ? If you are the Prime Minister of Great Britain you can lie and cheat your way into and out of anything and everything? That is just how it feels!!

Sorry, but as a lifelong Church of England member, we don't want the lying tw*t either.

No. As a Roman Catholic, I accept those who want to join our faith.

There are lots of Roman Catholics who lie. Trust me, if you kicked every Catholic out of the Church who lied, there wouldn't be many of us left.

The Church of England gives communion. Blair would not have been administered the communion by a Catholic priest. Go back and check your facts.

A personal note to Dodo. Cherie Blair is Catholic and the Blair children are christened Catholics (older children confirmed). Apparently, it was something Tony Blair wanted to do for a long time, but was prevented from converting because there is some archaic law which states the sitting Prime Minister of England has to be a Protestant. So much for freedom of religion, huh?

Come on, Helen - were not people (of all faiths) also disgusted when Anne Widdecombe also 'took the Rosary' after a lifetime of being Protestant. I don't really give a sweet cuss about his change of (religious) colour...and this may sound a wee bit twee now, but his purpose will be brought to book in time - and ours, if we feel we aught to comment thereupon.
Minerva, methinks offers the best advice, spoken (I suspect) like a good Catholic!

The thing that I wonder about with Blair, is what exactly is his commitment to Catholicism? Bearing in mind how he treated the Catholic Adoption Agencies when they resisted the idea of sending children to gay adoptive parents, it does make one feel a bit cynical. I have never thought he had any real commitment to anything at except making money, but if the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster is satisfied then who are we to judge?

To my mind, it's all hypocrisy anyway.
This is a Christian religion and should therefore be based on the Bible, however loosely.
Here we find "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven".
The rich are also told "sell all thou hast and give to the poor".
I don't think Mr Blair would somehow qualify on either of these counts. The affluent lifestyle he leads denies his Christian beliefs.

presumably having seen what the inquisition did to thousands of innocent people also fills you with the the same emotion that you show towards blair. the problem being that for the inquisition to have acted as it did needed the blessing of the popes of the time and the popes who are infallible could never have sent innocent people to be tortured and killed. When the catholics have resolved that one come back and tell me blair was a hypocrite.

lol you are a member of the roman catholic church complaining a liar and a cheat has been let in. aren't you more worried about the Catholic church covering up child abuse by paedo priests oh and the current pope was a member of the Hitler youth. Blair sounds like he's in the right place. he could learn al lot about being a sicko from these guys.

Helen I have no words to use to tell you how much I agree with you. Blair is not nor will he ever be a Catholic. That is a bullsh*t stinking lie !! It is theatre for some reason. Why should he have become a catholic ?
I wish you had provide a link. When was he allowed into the Church ? While he was prime minister ? Before we declared war on Iraq? After ? All this is relevant.
On the other hand, if the guy is sincere let him join us. But only if he is sincere. But yes, he is a liar.

If his wife is a Catholic then technically he is living in sin according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Church is to blame for relaxing it's rules to suit him just because he was Prime Minister.

Well, as a Roman Catholic of 50+ years, and one who begs for the return of the Latin Mass as an "across the board" requirement, imagine how I feel when I see Ted Kennedy and clan, and John Kerry and cohorts, and all "pro-choicers" continually allowed the Sacraments and allowed to be called Catholics. And think how "sucking" I think the term "American Catholic" or "American Catholicism" is. Live in this country (U.S.A.) and have to put up with all that, and you'll think the Tony Blair thing ain't s**t!. God Bless you.

P.S.: No insult intended here to your concerns. I'm simply very aware of the ignorant attacks on ROMAN Catholicism over the decades, and I speak out when offered the opportunity. Oh, and as for "Red_Chrome's" doubting whether Blair became Catholic, I'd recommend going to the CNN article in today's news and read up. You can learn a lot by reading, "Red_Chrome". God Bless you.
