I am 23 and I am currently involved in a post bacc pre med program at a local college. I just graduated with a BA in zoology and am finding that my passion for creative writing (outside the genre of science) has taken over my passion for medicine. Where can I go from here? I was thinking about getting a masters in creative writing but am terrified of the aspect of struggling to make it in a competative industry. What options do I have and where can I gain experience while applying to school?

That's the thing about science vs something like writing. There are more jobs than scientists (or medical professionals or engineers), but there are far more capable writers than there are jobs. You will need ability, resources, and a fair amount of luck; you only need the first two to make an excellent living in the sciences.

Still, if your passion is writing, getting an advanced degree is a good option. It's true that you do not NEED an advanced degree to write; but it will open doors and shave off years of convincing people you can write without the advanced degree.

Best thing to do is hit the pavement and using your networking skills to make contacts and get a job somewhat related to your field. For creative writing, you need to really research what kind of jobs are out there for you. The alternative may be to hole yourself in a room for a year or so and write your best-selling novel.

But in case it doesn't sell, keep the science degree in your back pocket.

Yeah, that's the beautiful thing about writing, it can be about anything. The most important thing to writing is experiences. Your experiences through science and other related fields could make great, fresh fodder for writing material, as there are not a ton of great writers who are also scientists. But, if you're really committed, you can always get a Masters of Fine Arts from an institution offering such a degree, one of the more prestigious being the University of Iowa. Lot's of great and lots of crappy writers have gotten this degree though, it can only help so much.

Erm... A BA in writing? did not they've an English choice? Did you pass to an approved tuition? You're going to have got to be trained approximately a area earlier than you'll write approximately it. a technical creator writes approximately extra than simply computer systems. The Westinghouse worker who wrote the technical documentation for the reactors they construct did not write approximately computer systems. On the application aspect, technical writing is by and large completed through undertaking managers, BA's, and many others versus a technical creator. There simply isnt so much of a necessity for it anymore given societal acclimation to application - which means that among the stuff being developed at present doesnt relatively require technical documentation. But then there may be employers that produce center application like working procedures, media consoles and application answers. If hired through this kind of, then I might suspect that you just might obtain all of the coaching you might want however, might nonetheless be anticipated to have a robust comprehend of the underlaying applied sciences. If I have been to emerge as a technical creator, I might appear to organizations that produce home equipment and purchaser electronics. I in my opinion might no longer make this resolution. What you would discover plenty of significance in is a respectable teacher - as in fitting one. You might be capable to pursue technical writing approximately matters that your business enterprise wishes documented and furnished to its staff. The federal govt is a well instance of this form of business enterprise.

You can write and submit your work to the appropriate publisher. You don't need a degree to become a writer.
