I think by the time you get around to murder one, you have it all pretty well justified in your head. My guess is that before it becomes humanly possible to point a gun and pull the trigger, you need to either KNOW you are right (even if you are wrong) or just plain be so deranged physiologically that you aren't qualified to answer questions like "why did you do it?"

It's about self justification. If you believe that what you're doing is either not wrong, or is actually helping society, you can justify your actions in your own mind.

I guess people are really afraid of punishment. My Civics teacher has told my class this. "In America you can do whatever you want, as long as you accept the consequences".
