Yes, but never if he is unqualified. Colin Powell is qualified to lead us right now, and showed better judgment than the current White House occupant.

Where there is no logic is in your question. If you are referring to a certain point in time, doesn't necessarily mean that Obama is going to win no matter what. There will be a point in time when we would have a Black President, to determine if he's qualified or not, who knows, look at the "Baboon" we have now and he's white. In my estimates qualifications had nothing to do with the stupid voters or the antics that politicians used to get elected. Now, where is the logic on voting just because , "we should have a Black President" at "certain point in time? It really doesn't make any sense. Also, do you really think that the world cares about which puppet we put in office? The way this present government had handled things and the way American people behave, has made the world don't give a sh*t about the USA and they laughing at us. They see that we are more concern about Brittney Spears Sister being pregnant, who's going to win Dancing With the Stars, or what's Oprah wearing in the campaign, than we are worried about real important affairs.

We already have a white president (but not the first) who's grossly unqualified. Why not a black one? As far as the inevitability issue, not to worry. Actually, I believe we have a better chance of electing a highly qualified black person than we do an equally qualified white candidate. Why? For any black candidate to win, he or she will have to meet an even higher standard and literally be the super-genius of all time!! On the other hand, all a white person has to be is George Bush. See what I mean?

Nobody wants an unqualified President. We've suffered for seven years now from that. But I would't say Obama is unqualified. He has more national level experience than another man from Illinois named Abraham Lincoln.

I disagree that Condoleeeeeeeeeeeza Rice would do a good job. She was a lousy National Security Advisor, and as Secretary of State she pressured the Palestinians into having an election, but it didn't turn out as she planned. Hamas won big! Nice going!

Whoever become the president has to be qualified, regardless of skin color.

By the way, the Hispanics have 35 million people in USA, while the african americans only have 34 millions. Therefore, there may be an Hispanic president here too if he/she is qualified, as there are some Hispanic mayors in California.

I really don't think that Obama running for president is a race issue. Some black voters may feel that sure, it's time for a black president, but being white, I wouldn't know. You could make the same argument about Hillary for being a woman. Considering the state our country is in, I hope that people (including yourself) will come out and vote, while seeing pat the issue of black/white, man/woman.

Black and UNqualified? Why settle for mediocrity? I think if such a thing is allowed to happen, division and discrimination would only worsen. Because when that leader starts to do all these wrong decisions, he and the black community will receive all these racial comments even more plus everything will be blamed on him. Not a very good idea.

Black and QUALIFIED would surely be better. :)

Who ever said anything like that, except for you?

I think the idea is that, if QUALIFIED black candidates run, eventually race won't be a deciding factor against that person.

I see that, with your assumption that the person would be unqualified just because he or she is black, you're not there yet.

"to prove to the world and ourselves that we have gone past the days of slavery and segregation"

that's ridiculous....

anyway it's too likely that we'll have a qualified black president before anyone unqualified is elected.

To vote in favor of anyone who is not qualified for any reason would be a dangerous thing to do. We need to consider the country as a whole. Anyone who votes for someone, for a single issue needs to consider the good for all, and not their own single cause.
