when you buy your pc, it came with an installation disc for the sound card, after windows has loaded, insert cd, and the set-up will guide you step by step on how install it and have sound back to your laptop.

You need to load the drivers for your motherboard. They are on a disk that came with the computer or on a partition on the hard drive. If they were on the latter, ie, the hard drive and you didn't save this partition then not only are your drivers gone, but so is the Vista "Restore" partition. If this is the case you will need to go to the manufactures web site and download these drivers. Be sure to get XP drivers and not Vista drivers.
