Well, first you will know that it's going to start soon when you feel that you have a different behavior or feel moody and when your back hurts a little. Then don't be scared. Just be prepared for when it comes. Then when it comes for the first time, you just prepare the pad like the way they show you on the video( did you watch a video in school in fifth grade?) or if you didn't, ask your mom. They usually have instructions on the pads though. Then just drink a lot of warm water and relax. If the cramps start, take a warm shower, put a heating pad over the cramps, or just walk around. Sometimes, after a long time of sitting down and then you stand up, you may feel it coming out really fast, don't worry. Although it may seem a lot, just relax because it isn't a lot. Change your pad after every 4 hours and remember to take a shower at least once a day. Normally, it will hurt the first few times, but then you get used to it and then you can do everything that you want to do without being self conscious and afraid. That's what happened to me and now I can do whatever I want. Also, your cycle will not be regular, so just keep pads with you for the times when it comes unexpectedly. And don't worry because it doesn't come at a rush when your period starts each month. So you can notice it before it becomes a heavy flow. Good Luck and hope I helped.
EDIT: and people won't know that you are on it if you don't tell them so because you won't walk a certain way even if you are on it.

First of all, there is nothing to be scared about and people WON't KNOW unless you tell them!
If you suffer from periods pain ;like some women do, it usually lasts for or 2 days. Ask your mum and sisters(if you have any and if you can) if they get periods pains as it usually runs in the family. If you do find that you're in pain (usually the day before they start or the 1st day of your periods), lying on your belly with a hot water bottle under your tummy helps as do paracetamol and ibuprofene.Do not take aspirin as it can make your periods heavier.
Hope that helps honey!
Also forgot to mention that on average, any woman will have periods coming in cycle so that every so many days, your periods will start. If you put a little cross in your diary when you start the first and the 2nd, it will give you an idea of the length of your cycle which will help you predict when the next one will come.(on average, every 28 days)

Everybody is different.
There is no point in lying to you, when i had my first one, i was in absolute agony. Rolling on the floor with a really bad back and stomach, they have gotten easier over the years. Yet my friend started the same time (roughly) and her's were ok, then got worse as she got older.
Some people say you get used to the pain, but personally i don't think it's possible as it's not frequent enough. Hot water bottles are awesome.
At the start i changed every hour, but over the years i got lighter, i still get the odd heavy and very painful one's, but nothing compared to my first few years.
Even 1 degree of extra heat makes me worse, so that and hot water bottle can be hard to juggle, but trust me, you will get used to it a sense.
Will you have anyone helping you through it (mum maybe)? I didn't, and i think it would have been easier if she was there to explain things.
EDIT: forgot to say, when i have light one's i just have a bad back, heavy ones bring cramp. But 2/3 days and the only 'uncomfort' i have is a very dull ache in my back SOMETIMES and the grubby feeling, but loads of freshen ups through the day and you will feel so much better.
If your mum or other close family relative is around, ask them how theirs were, some girls inherit the 'period behaviuor' (pain/regularity)
EDIT: Lucy bell is sooooo spot on about being organised!
No people will not know if you don't tell them.
BUT NEVER WHERE WHITE DAYS BEFORE/DURING!

Periods don't feel like anything.
You may experience tummy pains, just above your private area, but with a paracetamol and a hot water bottle, they soon go. ( Some people don't experience any pains. )
They are a little gross to begin with, they can be pretty messy, you would be wise to change your pad or tampon every 2/3 hours when you first start as they can be pretty heavy, although some people do have really light periods.
No-one will know you are on unless you tell them!

My love, it may hurt a little or a moderate amount. They feel like cramp in your tummy, you also may get backache and aches down your legs. Please don't be scared though, it's not that awful!
If you can't talk to a female grown up that you trust, have you got any books on the subject? Depending on where you live, there are lots of good books either on amazon or in the health or teenage section of your local library. I think it would be really helpful if you could get hold of one or two, they will be able to answer your questions. But it's not too awful. Good luck sweetie.

dont worry, its normal to be a bit scared. every woman/girl is different but for most periods arent that bad, you wont be in agony for days, its more like a mild discomfort, like a mild cramp inside your tummy. some people get no pain and some get alot so you will probably be inbetween. if you do experience alot of pain, take paracetamol or ibuprofen tablets when you are on your period. hot water bottles help too and warm baths (the warmth of the water stems the flow of blood so you wont end up in a bloody bath lol)
no one has to know when you are on your period unless you tell them. just as long as you dont wear a tight white mini skirt and dont change your pad/tampon lol.
dont worry about it, we all have to put up with it unfortunately.
merry xmas

perhaps your mum is able to answer your question. Periods are a part of growing up. Every girl deals with them differently so I could tell you one thing and be completely wrong. Ask mom, ask granny as a sister or aunt even. And look up information online to get the facts...you are soon going to transition to adulthood....so you need to know what is to come. good luck

Hunny, don't worry. You can't feel them but you may get some symptoms (like headaches but then again you may not!). I started 2 and a half years ago, they are still irregular. I get mouth ulsars 2 weeks before they start and get stomach cramps during them, but nothing a hot water bottle and painkillers won't fix!

When I first got mine it didn't hurt...My stomach would start to hurt after the 4th time maybe...It's just a little cramping so don't worry...it only hurts a little and doesn't last the whole time, just the first day. I still don't like it though...kinda makes me feel like I'm constantly peeing. It's uncomfortable.
