Sometimes the easy fix is a fuse as you have been told. The other fix is the cigarette lighter itself. But i have found that sometimes the jacket itself will need replaced. It is a wedged in type of system. Pain in the you know what but it will come out and replace with the original equipment. Do not use after market as they do not fit properly

Cigarette lighters are usually on the "accessory" fuse, or ACC in the fuse block. Check that first...are any other accessories out, like power door locks?
The most common failure is, of course, normal wear and tear...the element burns out. If you can find another cigarette lighter, try it. even if it doesn't stay in, it should get hot if you hold it there, for a few seconds.

i own a 98 sport wrangler and have 5 others in my yard .. After you try a new lighter and check the fuse go to a junkyard and try taking one out of a wreck ... that way you will know what to expect when you do yours... You should invest in the shop manual for you jeep , it will be of great help when working on it !!!! Do not by a haynes or chiltons manual ,, they are a waste of money... Go on E-bay to find a good shop manual for you car... i've even found them on a disk for about 10 bucks... good luck
