first, ssi and disability are two different things. ssi usually pays much less than disability. If you get a letter telling you that you have not qualified for disability you can appeal. If you applied for disability and they deny you but later you win the appeal they will pay you from the first application. If you are denied I would suggest finding a local lawyer that is experienced with disability cases. You should not have to pay the lawyer until you get your disability money.

You didn't say what your mental illness is, but if your depression stops you from being able to work for six months or more then you should qualify. It really depends on what documentation you have and what the psychologists said.

Are you sure they didn't send you to a psychiatrist? normally they send you to a psychiatrist not a psychologist. If you have a mental health record your chances of getting disability are greatly improved.

good luck

My Sister gets Social Security, and S>S>I> for Mental Disabilities. But, From what she has told me, you have to have 2 things wrong with you. For instance, she is "Manic Depressive", and also "Obsessive Compulsive". She told me that if she only had one thing wrong, she would have been turned down, Why I don't know. Talk to your case worker and find out what you may need is about all I can say to help my friend. I am just going by what my sister told me several years ago, and she also had to get an attorney too. I hope this helped you friend, And I hope you get taken care of as well. Take Care and God-Bless to You and Yours. 1st. Sgt., 7th Special Forces, (Ret.) Vietnam 67-70

this is a hard question since it has been my findings that the ssi has no rhyme or reason for approving or disapproving == most time it is in the eyes of the case worker!!!!
