I grew up hearing a lot about the Holocaust from my Jewish father and Grandparents...I felt sympathy and admiration for Jews.
However when I visited Israel a couple of times and read about it's History my feelings changed.
I didn't realise that Jewish Immigrants from Europe had illegally (during the British Mandate) invaded this Arab land of Palestine as it was known and took it by force from the local Palestinians.
And that these Immigrants then started a terrorist campaign against the British rulers committing numerous atrocities. Including the Bombing of the British HQ at the King David Hotel Killing over 90 innocent people. The perpetrator, Menachem Begin went on to become the Prime Minister of the renamed land of Palestine ( Israel)
Numerous other known Jewish Terrorist or Persecutors who sanctioned the murder and Ethnic Cleansing of 1000's of Palestinians were elected to office....Ben Gurion, Gold Meir, Yitzhak Shamir and the Infamous Ariel Sharon who sanctioned the Murder of over 3000 Palestinian, mostly women and children in a Lebanese Palestine Refugee Camp.
Virtually all Jewish towns and villages were formerly Palestinian....
Now the Palestinians are asking for only 22% of their Homeland back and the Israelis get to keep 78%..
But they don't Even want to give them that and have allowed dozens of Jewish Fortress settlements to be built in the West bank and Gaza....With 27 Jew only Roads and a Berlin Type Wall to cut off Palestinians from their Work, Hospitals and Schools...
I think we should have sympathy for Atrocities against Jews but at the same time we must equally feel sympathy for Black people, Irish, Aboriginals, Armenians, Native Americans, Indians and other victims of Persecution, Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide in recent History.....None of these were handed a country on a silver plate as compensation for their suffering
The Israeli Jews do harm to the Jewish community of the world....By behaving like the German Nazis who Persecuted them 60-70 years ago...
Europeans are accused of standing by and doing nothing to stop Genocide of the Jews, Gypsies, Gays and Jehovah's Witnesses in Nazi Germany.
They should also not stand by and watch Ethnic Cleansing of Palestinians by Israel and Potential Planned Genocide.

I am Palestinian and my answer would be, "Every sad even should be remembered". What happend to the Jews in Holucoust is so sad and I believe it was the most horrible event. However the Jews after wards became more comfortable in their lives. Most of the Jews nowadays are wealthy and live in peace. Even those who live in Israel are not all in danger and many of them have comfortable lives.
Most Palestinians however, lost their homes, became refugees, and most of them are poor. Wherever they go theiy get discriminated against. The Arabic countries that the Jews and ignrant western people keep asking us to leave do, don't give a shi'tt to our situation. They treat us like animals and we have no rights in their countries. That is in addition to the camps the Palestinians have to live and the pollution and disases in those camps because they are not provided with enough garbage can and good health care. This is in addition to the killing and humilation from the Israelis everyday.
A big masscarce is horrible but it happened once and that is it. However, a slow genocide and masscarce is happening everyday and the world is sleepy and blind from the facts.
Peace

Mark S, Gave very well written condensed version of the Historical events that show territorial claim, as far as how the landscape revolved to approximately 1942,which accounts for why some try and compare it to the Holocaust. Which was genocide also. The Holocaust did happen. Read Mein Kamph, written by A. Hitler, I did and so what if it's 720 pgs. long. That man was loved by the people,at first. Then, terrified.
What is happening now, is still not a crisp portrait and there are too many covert things happening still. There are Secret Hit Squads, and policies that relate to so much violence, hatred, and I think most of all no one truly understands how to figure out how to settle this constant war.
One example: The 1972 Olympics in Munich. (Israeli squad assigned to track down and assassinate 11 Palestinians that were "believed" to have planned the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes). I believe Golda Meir ordered it. She had no consideration for Palestinians, and called them animals.
Consequently in the long run these unintended reactions, or intended results, bedeviled all. These are the issues that should be discussed and thought out. These actions in particular, had the Arabs,French and the Russians all involved, no one knew who to believe what. Who knew what? CIA, KGB,M16, and more? It seems like no one trusts anyone. This is the "peace" I pray for.
By the way, it is said, that the Arabs hate the Palistinians, but the Jews even more so. Why is this?
I'm depressed now. Let me just say I support the innocent, on both sides. We ALL need to respect, each other, there has to be a way to negotiate, with out butchering each other.

I agree we should have sympathy for those victims of the Nazi holocaust both Jewish and others that the Nazis considered "deviant" or impure or whateever. You are absolutely right that no other peoples who suffered genocide were handed a country on a silver plate as compensation. The murder of millions of Jews by Nazis and with the help of some French, Poles, and others doesn't justifiy giving the land and property of the Palestinians who had nothing to do with the murder of those millions to relatives of the victims.
Ethnic cleansing is genocide under international law. The Israelis are guilty of ethnic cleansing - therefore genocide. The difference is of course a matter of magnitude, but to any one victim there is just as much suffering.
If you read UN resolution 181 (which recommended Jewish and Arab states be set up in Palestine), it explicitly said that both states should respect the rights of the minorities (Arabs in the Jewish state and Jews in the Arab state) within their borders. There was nothing in resolution 181 giving the Jews the right to force people from their homes and confiscate their land. But that's what the Zionists did.
Yes the Israelis are acting towards Palestinians and Arabs like Nazi occupiers of other countries they invaded - setting up puppet governments, brutally forbidding opposition to their rule, destroying villages and communities and expelling the people because they want the land.
No, they haven't set up death factories either. That said this whole business of closing the borders of Gaza so that only a trickle of food can get in, cutting off fuel which is used to purify water and treat sewage so people have to drink bad water, and not allowing people out that need to to go to hospitals so that they just die, well, it's getting there.
And if you ask me, those who exploit the holocaust to say it's OK to destroy villages and kill or expel the people deserve no sympathy whatsoever.

You're comparing two disparate things. Think about it. Did the jews in Europe fire thousands of rockets at other people which resulted in their oppression? NO, they did NOT!!
The problem with Palestine is that they put Hamas into power and Hamas fires their rockets from civilian areas, knowing that any country would retaliate and civilian deaths will result. This is planned and executed by Hamas to happen this way.
Israel has no alternative to protect themselves. Surely you don't expect any country to be fired on relentlessly and not fire back. That would be ridiculous.

Unfortunately, history is a struggle between minorities, were the majority lean toward the victor. As long as we have bad people in power (on any side) we should expect terrible things & innocent victims.
Did you hear how Pat Robertson justifies Israel? He quotes from the bible that God promised “his people” the land from the Euphrates to the Nile. Some people are willing to support an Israeli invasion to Iraq, Syria, Egypt, & probably Sudan in the name of God.

Some people forget that Jewish history began prior to 1967. Many believe that Israel was arbitrarily created. It is as if they are unaware that Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Algeria, Yemen and Egypt were carved out as countries by international fiat. By obfuscating the undisputable fact that Israel was legally established as a sovereign state by the United Nations, they justify a fast-growing trend - the call for the establishment of one secular democratic state for Israelis and Palestinians, which would herald the ultimate destruction of Israel.
Neighborhood Bully
Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man,
His enemies say he's on their land.
They got him outnumbered about a million to one,
He got no place to escape to, no place to run.
He's the neighborhood bully.
The neighborhood bully just lives to survive,
He's criticized and condemned for being alive.
He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin,
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in.
He's the neighborhood bully.
The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land,
He's wandered the earth an exiled man.
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn,
He's always on trial for just being born.
He's the neighborhood bully.
Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized,
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad.
The bombs were meant for him.
He was supposed to feel bad.
He's the neighborhood bully.
Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him,
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac.
He's the neighborhood bully.
He got no allies to really speak of.
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love.
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side.
He's the neighborhood bully.
Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace,
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease.
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly.
To hurt one they would weep.
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep.
He's the neighborhood bully.
Every empire that's enslaved him is gone,
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon.
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand,
In bed with nobody, under no one's command.
He's the neighborhood bully.
Now his holiest books have been trampled upon,
No contract he signed was worth what it was written on.
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth,
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health.
He's the neighborhood bully.
What's anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin', they say.
He just likes to cause war.
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed,
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed.
He's the neighborhood bully.
What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers?
Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill,
Running out the clock, time standing still,
Neighborhood bully.

Even if Jewish people are killing Palestinians, which is awful, it does not mean that that lessens the impact of the Holocaust.
It was still a terrible event. Not saying that Palestinians DESERVE what is going on, I'm simply stating that the Holocaust still happened, and that it's shocking, and it's never going to go away.
and both sides have refused peace. It's a totally different situation then the holocaust was.

Err...so you're saying that; just because someone is BAD right now, that means their ancestor has to pay for it and their entire history.
I'd prefer being the mature one rather than being kids and commence the immature fight.
OVERALL, if one is bad, so will you be too?
