to everyone? If people start thinking it is "free" we are going to have real problems keeping costs down, which is what we have now because people have no clue what it costs, regardless.

Citizen: Those pills cost you more in the US because the company is paying for research and overhead. Does Canada pay for any of that? I don't think so. Go ahead and think that you will get pills for $30 from the US and see how long that lasts.

citizen1......(whatever your entire name is)

the reason healthcare/prescriptions and everything associated with it costs so much more an america is simple. in america, you can file a lawsuit, and win millions and millions of dollars for stupidity. the reason it costs so much for perscriptions? pharmacuetical companies have to cover the costs of a future lawsuit, because it WILL happen. private doctors offices, have to pay up to 100,000 dollars a month for malpractice insurance. here is an idea people, use everything at your own risk. if you slip and fall, use a different sidewalk next time, you had the option to walk around the ice, or the crack in the sidewalk. if your medication doesn't work, use a different medication. if the doctor misdiagnosed you, use another doctor next time, you shouldn't have put your life in the hands of someone you didn't trust. and if you did trust them, why are you sueing them? they did what they could...

so there you go citizen 1, the answer to your question, i will summarize it. Healthcare/Prescriptions, pay way too much than they should have to for their insurance, so they pass the bill to us. Insurance companies pay out way more than they should, due to inane lawsuits and fraud, so they pass the bill to healthcare providers/pharmacuetical companies. so the reason we pay too much for everything, is us. as a whole, we shoot ourselves in the foot with every lawsuit, with every act of insurance fraud. sucks, dont' it? paying for other peoples dishonesty.

by the way, to answer the actual question asked, i think universal healthcare is stupid, and i also think that hostpitals being forced to treat everyone is stupid, if patients can't afford healthcare, let them suffer, let them die, i don't care. they should have gotten a job, or whatever they needed to do get covered. and yes, your destiny is in your control, always. its not my responsibilty or anyone elses to care for you, you should have been prepared, no exceptions. but about the real question, i assume universal haelthcare is inevitable, as there are too many idiots who have the 'robin hood mentality' but don't realize they are the one getting robbed. and there isn't a system that everyone will agree on, so it ain't worth even arguing, or asking the question. you all want to sound smart to impress everyone on the internet you will never meet, thats stupid, argue about something worthwhile, or at least something that can be agreed upon. no one will change their mind, so why waste your time arguing?

Fact: I buy Rx medicine. If I buy 30 pills in the USA the cost is $300. If I buy the same medicine from an on-line pharmacy in Canada the cost is $70.

I think about the cost because I pay for it. But privatized medicine in America is a scam.

The insurance companies spend so much money brainwashing gullible Americans that they act on slogans instead of facts.

Please explain to me why my medicine costs $70 a bottle in Canada and $300 a bottle in the USA.

I am an American citizen. I am not part of the Canadian system.

Oh! and I pay for American Health Insurance, too. But, Blue Cross won't pay for my medicine.

Please state exactly what you expertise is in analyzing US medical costs.

Your question is not based on a single verifiable fact. You just act like a good robot echoing what Insurance company propaganda tells you.

Please answer my question. Why do identical medicines cost $70 for 30 pills in Canada and $300 for 30 pills in the USA. It's the exact same medicine. Shouldn't Canada's government system inflate the cost? So why is it $230 per bottle cheaper in Canada.

How come my great American Blue Cross Insurance won't pay for it?

I bet you can't come up with an explanation?

And since you analize the "costs". Why is a system that charges $230 more per bottle a better system.

It is because they have eaten the forbidden fruit from The Liberal Socialist Political Correctness ; Tree of Lies ` !! Political correctness over the decades has taken it`s toll on the minds of American`s by having it preached to them that if something is wrong with their life , then they are told it is not their fault ! Someone else must be blamed , someone else must pay for their miserable life choices they made for themselves ! Being Politically Correct means they never have to take the blame for anything negative , also ; they tell a lie , get caught in it , and no one in The Liberal Socialist Media will report on it ! They only appreciate the free stuff if it doesn`t cost them ! So ; when they are all grown up they have been indoctrinated by The Political Correctness Academia , and they know nothing else but to assume that if they want something , all they have to do is ask for it and it will be granted to them at no cost to them !

Yes. Healthcare is expensive in the USA as money goes into making money, not delivering healthcare. That is why so many people find the insurance policy they have does not pay out when they need it.

I live in the UK and work in the NHS (our universal health care system). It has problems, but not as many as the US healthcare system has. Despite spending much more per head of population than other developed countries, the US has worse health outcomes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care#Economics Life expectancy and infant mortality figures in the US are higher than in other developed countries, despite more money being spent (and wasted) in the USA.

In the UK there are waiting lists for routine problems. Problems that can not wait are treated as emergencies. Also, in the UK, people can also have private health care.

I can understand Americans being proud of living in the richest and most powerful country in the world. What I can not understand is why Amercians settle for an expensive healthcare system where babies die that would have a better chance of life if born in another developed country.

Last of all, it is not the US that funds drug production for the rest of the world. As strange as it may seem to you, there are loads of drug companies that are not based in the USA. So, for the record, other countries do help fund the development of new drugs. I should know, I have been involved in various drug trials.

I've addressed this in another question, but the United States government already spends more on health care than any other developed country, and gets the least return for it.

Single-payer health systems reduce costs less than our current system. It'd be a no-brainer, if it weren't for the screeching zeal of the brainless.

Because people want the "government" to provide free health care, not realizing that the people are the "government". Every body wants something for nothing.

This is human nature. Senses of entitlement always overshadow the reality. I think co-payment system is the best.

yes -- this is what always happens with something that is "free" -- economists call it "moral hazard" or the "problem of the commons".

it always results in overuse of the 'free' good and thus suboptimizes economic growth and income for everyone.
