Of course. The cliche that some people can't handle the truth is essentially true on a multiplicity of levels.
There are national secrets that, if revealed, would probably bring down the country.
The white lies that loved ones tell each other do not harm anyone, when the truth in such a circumstance would just make you look like a jerk.
Sometimes a lie is the best thing. I believe the important factor is if you lie with the intent to cause harm.

It is the epitome of dishonesty that the truth would be "crush"ing. If honesty was not only the best policy, but, the only acceptable and for more common policy, then people would not be injured by assertions of that nature. It is only because others consider expressing a "white lie" or a fib as a socially acceptable method to avoid expression of a negative view, that to choose a more honest approach is perceived as an insult or a callous behavior. Good luck and God Bless.

Roars: You can't handle the truth!!!!!!
This is a very simpleton answers, but I like to be alone...get some work done, some thinking, reading, relaxing, etc.,,,I have to lie to my friends to do this. They won't understand....I have much better things to do than hang out for hours and waste time. If I was honest, I'd have NO friends at all! Even my family would hate me. In fact, don't you agree that at time politeness can be a form of lying? Definitely!
Not a very philosophical, but an honest answer.

Depends on the lie. Lie's will always come back to haunt you if they are big. Even little ones. The only ones that are fine are "Does this dress make me look fat?" now if its your friend and your both girls and they look horrible in it then tell them the truth, they'll thank you. But these types of questions it is sometimes okay to lie in. Or if you throw someone a surprise party. Then you need to lie, or else the party is completely ruined.

Neither. There's more than two sides. Americans have a strange need to always be saying something. If you are in a situation where you feel like you must lie, just don't say anything. Sure, the people might think that it means something, but they have no proof because you haven't said anything.

Neither we, nor our times, are unique. It has always been necessary to lie at times; all times, all worlds, all people know this and do it.

It is not necessary to lie. People just do it for reasons of their own.

Everybody I know lies every single day about something. If you look honestly at yourself you will see the same.
In the end death wins, so do whatever you feel like doing
