First, it should be explained that she is an actress, and that a separate identity should be established from her TV persona. Second, well, this is hard considering how young your son is, but if he has found out/finds out I would explain that sometimes people make bad decisions (some more serious than others), and have to deal with the consequences. This is a really hard call, as you don't want to overexpose a child, nor do you want to ignore their questions. I personally think the whole teenage pregnancy thing, especially concerning a teen role model is too complex for an 8 year old, maybe a 12 year old who may need to know as a warning, but I'd keep the explanation fairly vague for now.

It depends on your own religious and moral feelings on this subject. I think if you need to, you can tell an 8yo the basic facts of how a baby is made. Then explain to him that Jamie Lynn made a mistake but now she is going to raise her baby and do her best to be a good mom. Add anything else you think will help your son to understand the situation, but I don't think it's a good idea to tell him that she is getting married when we don't know that, or that she was already married when the baby was conceived.

I will assume that he does not know about the pregnancy. Tell him that you and the rest of the country found out that Jamie Lynn Spears will be expecting a baby soon, and that you do not know if she and the baby's father, Casey Aldridge, will get married or not. Tell him that since she is a celebrity, the news of her getting married to Casey or someone else will no doubt make headline entertainment news, and that you will tell him when you find out it's official.

Damn. Thats hard. There's two different periods that deserve to very different answers. There's the eight year old answer and there's the answer you give when puberty hits. Right now its she's married, she's gonna be a mommy and have a family at a very young age and that there's gonna be a lot that she can't do. At this point you can exaggerate and name things he loves to do. When puberty hits tell the absolute truth. Its going to be difficult, I'm not takin care of it, you'll be a statistic on welfare, etc.. Well maybe not so tough.

He is only 8 so I wouldn't get into much detail since he wouldn't understand. Tell him you don't know if she is getting married but if she does it will likely be on the news.
