I think my Mother-in-Law is giving me a necklace that I do not want. I really appreciate the thought, but I really don't want it. It is a Journey necklace (I think it's about 1/4 ct.) and it's the squiggle one. My husband wanted to get it for me before and he asked what size I would want...I told him the one ct. would be nice, but I didn't really want a smaller one. I know that sounds horrible...but he used to work in the jewelry business and I have a lot of stuff so I can be "picky" about what I get now. This pendant has 7 stones...can you imagine how TINY they are if all 7 add up to 1/4 ct.? One of my earrings is bigger than that...what do I do?

I feel like I sound really ungrateful and mean, but I'm honestly not that way. If I am going to wear something that is real diamonds I want to be able to see them and have others be able to see them...that’s all. And as I said before, I already have a lot of stuff so now I am a little more selective as to what I want.

She got a really good deal on it (she paid $17) and bought it for herself. She even told my husband about it. Then she saw something at a store for him for Christmas (even though she was already done) and bought it for him. I think she’s giving me the necklace so she would have spent the same on both of us.

There really is no way yo tell someone (especially your MIL) that you don't want the neckalce because the diamonds are too small without sounding stuck up and rude. You can ask for certain types of things, but the only way you can get what you want is to get it for yourself. Thats why they call them "gifts" and not "deliveries"
Tell her thank you, wear it around her, or exchange it at the jewlery store and add some money to upgrade it. But feeling could easily get hurt. so be careful.

Does it matter if you get a necklace you don't want? Just thank her and put it away somewhere. I'm sure you have other necklaces.
