I think that people personify God to be what they want him to be: A ruler and creator that forgives you for anything you do and assures you that you will be in paradise when you die. Death has always been mysterious to humans, so it is understandable that we would personify a God and have him tell us that everything will be ok. People do bad things, so having a God to forgive them makes them not feel as guilty.

I personally believe that God or a God is simply a driving force of nature, like the sun, that keeps everything moving. My God regulates motion, creates forces, and keeps the universe moving. (If that makes sense) I don't think of God as a man with a beard that is like a father. When people say "God our father" I think of the force of nature that allows each of us to be born.

For example, the sun allows the crops to grow and we eat the crops. The sun also grows the grass that feeds the animals we eat. Humans are too egotistical thinking that we are the only ones that matter. Why should a god care about us more than any other creature on this earth?

Basically, I have a lot of theories, but in simple, people personify god. That's the point: People personify God and it isn't right.

(Don't get me started on Jesus.)

I believe that, in the infinity of the universe, there might be creatures that we could perceive and/or classify as "Gods".

I believe this in the same way that the Native North and South Americans saw the "White Man" as Gods when they showed up on their shores...

The way that a Monkey might look at the wonders of Human Technology and, being unable to comprehend the science, term it as "Magic" and "God" in their attempt at understanding.

We humans have reached the point in our evolution that we understand that there is a reason behind everything that happens...

Lightning is caused by electrons and the earth's magnetic field...

Rain happens because of the condensation of water vapor in the atmosphere...

Drought in Arizona is caused by the change in the temperature of the ocean on the other side of the world...

We are now able to look at the world and comprehend what is happening so we no longer need to justify everything as the act or whim of a unseen "God" in the sky.

We now understand that a slaughtered goat will not cause the rain to fall...

If an advanced culture were to arrive on earth TODAY we would ALL go "OOOhhhhhhhh.... Aliens that evolved on another planet." and not instantly say "The Gods Have Shown Themselves!!"

We would understand that it is just a type of technology and we could comprehend the biology and technology of the visitors.

What is TRULY sad is that even though we no longer need to lable the non understood as the work of an omniscient, omnipresent being in the sky we still have BILLIONS of people that can't drop the crutch that allows them to think that they are special little snow flakes created for a reason.

The comprehension that we are all just the result of our parent's biological urge to procreate and continue the species might just drive the small minded mad!

So we perpetuate this Myth of the great creator and continue the ever present evils of death and war over who is "Right" even though we ALL should have grown out of this long, long ago!

One God with many names and forms.

Why ? I have faith.
Science can tell me all there is to know but it can't tell me why did all that have to be. So till that question can be answered I will keep my faith in God.

Trivia if you are not interested in knowing about other religions ignore :

I am a Hindu and people would think I should have many Gods to believe in. I found this out quite late in my life only after I tried to understand my religion. There is one true God expressed to us only by the sound "Om" and all the others including the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh were made by him to expand and look after the cycles of his creation. For those who want to find out on their own read the Shiv Mahapuran to see for yourself.

Gods were created as an illustration for an aspect of a persons psyche eg Venus for love, Kwan Yin for compassion etc.
They are best utilised when used as a tool for guidance and growth. At worst, they can worshipped unquestionably, which of course is incorrect treatment and can lead to oppression and wars.

I believe there are as many gods as there are people. Think about it, everyone has a slightly different idea of what and who god is. So therefore either there are as many gods as people or every god no matter how different is an aspect of the one source of power. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong at the same time...even me.

Gods are the creation of men. If a human didn't think a God was watching and pulling the strings, a God cannot exist because Gods are created by thought.

Because if Gods did not have worshippers, Gods would not exist. A God with no followers is dead.

So no, I don't.
