Dear Ms. Delightful...

To solve your equation by completing the square, we perform
the following steps.

x^2 + 4x - 32 = 0
x^2 + 4x = 32
( x^2 + 4x + 4 ) = 32 + 4
( x + 2 ) ^2 = 36
after taking the square root of both sides of the equation we
have:

squrt ( x + 2 )^2 = + or - squrt 36
x + 2 = + or - 6
x = - 2 + or - 6

The solution set is that { x: -8 , 4 }

x² + 4x - 32 = 0 , take 32 to the right hand side
x² + 4x = 32 , add the square of one half of the coefficient of x to either side

x² + 4x + (4/2)² = 32 + (4/2)²
x² + 4x + (2)² = 32 + (2)²
x² + 4x + 4 = 32 + 4
x² + 4x + 4 = 36 , the left hand side is of the form (x+a)²
(x+2)² = (6)² taking square root on both sides
x+ 2 = ± 6
x + 2 = 6 therefore x = 6-2 = 4
x + 2 = -6 therefore x = -6 -2 = -8

x = 4 or -8

Given:

x^2+4x-32=0 ( here 2b=4 i.e, b=2 => b^2 =4)

adding 4 on both sides,

x^2 + 4x = 32

x^2 + 4x + 4 = 32 +4

(x + 2) ^2 = 36

(x + 2) = sqrt(36)

(x + 2) = + 6 or -6

=> x= 4 or -8

all the best

x^2 - 4x = 32 now finished the sq. the coefficient of x is -4, take a million/2 of it, sq. it, upload to the two aspects giving x^2 - 4x + 4 = 36 (x-2)^2 = 6^2 x = 2 +/- 6 x = -4, x = 8 (C)

first, get it to:
x^2+4x=32
now, you have x^2+4x and you can get that to a perfect square. Remember, whatever you add on one side you must add on the other.
When you foil something, the insides and outsides will add together to be the x term. here, the insides and outsides will add up to be 4. Since it must be a perfect square, the insides and outsides must be the same number. 4/2 is 2, so we know that it will be (x+2)^2
(x+2)^2=x^2+4x+4
so far we only have x^2+4x but we can add 4 to both sides to get
x^2+4x+4=32+4
or x^2+4x+4=36
then you can rewrite x^2+4x+4 as (x+2)^2
so
(x+2)^2=36
square root each side to get
x+2= +/-6
so x=4 or -8

x^2 + 4*x = 32
add to each side 1/2 the coefficient of x and square it
x^2 + 4*x + (4/2)^2 = 32 + (4/2)^2
(x + 2)^2 = 36
x + 2 = ±6
x = 4, -8 ■
