This sounds like "Total Recall" by Paul Verhoeven - the movie is based on the Philip K Dick story "We can remember it for you wholesale".
Arnold is bored with his life so goes to the Total Recall corporation in order for them to give him the experience of a holiday on Mars by altering his mind (that bit is where he is strapped to the machine). The movie then becomes an all out action flick where you are never sure whether what is happening is real or imagined.
He goes to Mars (or does he?) which has a red sky.
