2008 is nearly upon us, and I like to challenge myself each new year to become a better person. During this next year, I'd like to focus on becoming a better wife. I'd say I'm a damn good wife already, but there is always room for improvement no matter how great you are... so help me figure out what qualities I should cultivate/work on during the upcoming year.

Which of these categories would you say is MOST important in order to be a great wife? (Not to the exclusion of all else, of course, but comparatively speaking...)

1) Physical: her appearance, her clothing/hair/makeup, being physically fit, etc.
2) Emotional: having a pleasant temperament, being considerate of his needs, not nagging/complaining, etc.
3) Social: being a good hostess, keeping the house up in case of visitors, mingling well with his coworkers/friends, etc.
4) Sexual: this one ought to be obvious, but just being available, willing, and enthusiastic about it. :)
5) Other - you suggest?

Rank or vote, your choice!

Thanks for the great responses thus far! Of course I believe all aspects are important and balance is key, but I have limited ability to focus so I want to target one particular item for the next year. After that, it's anybody's game. ;)

I am not asking what makes a great husband because 1) I HAVE a great husband and 2) even if there was something I wished he would change, I cannot make him change it. I can only be the best wife I can be and lead by example. :)

It looks like, thus far, emotional and sexual are getting the most votes.... additional thoughts are always welcome!

I think that all of these are equally important! To be a good wife you have to be well rounded, open, expressive, passionate, understanding, giving and assertive. In the spirit of staying within what you have outlined I will rank them.

1. Emotional
2. Sexual
3 Social
4. Physical

I was asking myself that the other day. I don't know anyone who is 100% or completely satisfied. If they say they are, they are lying. I'm a wife, so to help answer your question, I would put it in "what makes a great husband?" I think the two are very close. I would want my husband to be more on the emotional side #2. That to me is the most important.

Well for me, 2 & 4. But being a great wife or husband for that matter is the whole package. I personally prefer to see more affection and openess and sharing. Everything you mentioned is great but think in the core of the relationship I want to nourish our bond with communciation or closeness. I want to kow what she is thinking and what is bothering her long before it become a major issues. I care about every from small to large and don't wantto be excluded from that. And I also wanna feel the love deomstrated daily in even the small ways, like hugging, kissing, sitting closely together on the couch and so on. Okay, maybe not exactly what you were looking for but maybe you can take something from it. BTW, I think it is awesome that you care enough to always want to improve. Bravo!

To me the best thing you can do to be a great wife, is to let your husband feel like a man.
Don't nag him or question every little thing he does. Allow him to make decisions and go along with them. Let him be the leader of the house.

5) Taking care of his parents.

I dont know if this should figure out anywhere in the points above. But personally in my life, I've lived with a person who pressed this upon me.

Men are easy to please usually, I would say numbers 1 & 4 are key...all men love those two things...but improve on all if improving is needed, and good luck!!
