It has been a issue where I work of why married persons who do the same job as we do aren't placed on afternoon and night shifts also working on weekends.

Absolutely! I remember at one job, all the single people revolted and went to the boss about the unfairness of it all - our "final straw" was this single guy asked off for his uncle's funeral but it wasn't covered under company bereavement policy so the boss denied his request; and yet this married mother of two left early all the time for soccer games, orthodontist appointments, etc.

He told us "society had made a judgment about the value of married women with children" and we needed to respect that!

UGH!!!

certain people who are more flexible are also being tested. if you are willing to do more and go farther than the normal employee, you stand out a little in the bosses book. that matters when it comes time to raise/promotion time. also, the married co-worker could also be asking for more time off or always making the excuse that he cant do it because of this or that reason. maybe the boss knows they cant be depended upon and hes looking for his go-to-guy. (maybe a little unfair, but being a good employee means doing what the boss asks, it must pay-off sometime, lol)

Good question cutie!.... While my boss is one of the most tolerant, great bosses on the planet... I do think he's more understanding of the "married" employees home obligations... like when he wants me to stay late and offers to get me dinner after... he never really "gets it" that I have a boyfriend waiting for me at home who hasn't eaten either and he's waiting for me to come home so we can cook dinner... I think my boss thinks of it like he's my "buddy" or something and it's not as important as a female employee who's straight wanting to go home and make dinner for her family....

Actually, Yes. It has been an issue that I have addressed several times, to no avail.

A little bit at times, like when someone has to leave to go get a sick kid at school, but it gets made up to me.

Fortunately for me no. I work for a company that treats all their employees equal.

i find that my coworkers who are married with kids think that it is more important that they be off on holidays, ect for "the kids". lucky for me, my boss is unmoved and treats everyone pretty fairly.
