Ignoring the 6 for a moment, you really have a series (1 + 1/3 + 1/9) multiplied by 2.

The series converges to 3/2, so twice that plus 6 = 9, the answer to b).

Back to a), the first six terms of the series (again setting aside the +6 and the 2X) sum to 364/243, so the answer to a) is 6 + 2*(364/243) = 2186/243.

The answer to A) is 8 242/243 and the answer to B) is 8.999999999999999 approaching the limit of 9.
