Does it hurt?

YES ! ....don't do it. get a magnet 1....you get the same effect(attention) without the pain and without a HOLE in your nose.

I got my nose pierced with a piercing stud back in the days when it wasn't even popular yet. To answer your question, it DOES hurt for a little while. If you've ever gotten punched in the face and had your eyes water, it's a slightly lesser degree than that because you are piercing cartilage instead of just adipose (fat) tissue. I would NOT suggest what I did but research your piercer and make sure they use sterile equipment (ask if they have an autoclave) and also make sure the equipment is NEW in the package and has never been opened...Hope this helps a little...

What type of nose piercing?

If you are going for the good ol' nostril, likely the clamp they put around the soon-to-be-pierced area is going to hurt more than the actual piercing (nose rings, typically, are done in very very small gauges with tiny needles).

If you are going for the septum, however, be prepared... If you're not sure, this is the piercing of the skin between the nostrils (think about a bull with a ring in its nose). Some have said this is the most painful piercing, as the cartilege is thickest between your nose, moreso than your ear. I have my tragus pierced (that little bump of cartilege on the bottom inside of your ear) and that was a rather thick chunk of body to go through. I will vouche for the thicker the cartilege, the more painful the piercing. Plus, the nose is a sensitive area, anyway.

Good luck!

A friend of mine got this done; like an ear piercing, it was irritating for a short while, but you get used to it before long. Just make sure it doesn't get infected. Prepare for redness around the piercing for the first couple days.

No, but it is a really, really stupid thing to do. The only reason to do it is societal/peer pressure. It is obviously not something a wise person would do for him/herself. Think about washing your face, or when you have a cold, or later when you wise up and want it out of there. And who says it's cute? Your air-head girlfriends? A lot of those things look like a booger or a wart or something nasty there.

Ok, imagine sticking your finger with a pin, does that hurt. Now imagine punching a needle through cartilage in your nose. What do you think!

NOT REALLY ITS A SLIGHT PINCH AND THEN IT JUST FEELS SWOLLEN AND NUMB.
JUST LIKE THE NUMBNESS YOU FEEL IN YOUR EARS WHEN ITS FREEZING COLD ON A WINTER DAY AND YOUR EARS ARE BRIGHT RED BUT AS YOU WARM UP THE FEELING GOES AWAY.
YOU CAN AVOID IT GETTING GREENISH IF YOU INVEST SOME MONEY IN A GOLD NOSESTUD TO PIERCE WITH.

Just common sense here, but usually getting your skin punctured hurts
