as buying steroids in 1996. Well, he played from 1990-2003, and it just so happens that his career best year was 1996 when he hit 41 HR's and 112 RBI's. In 1997 he had a pretty good year also, hitting 30 HR's and 86 RBI's. The rest of his career was downhill from there and pre-1996 he was just an average player. His stats went through the roof in 1996, the year he was linked to roids. I understand why players do them, because they work, and he got paid millions more for the rest of his career. You agree?

Thats interesting, and we were just talking about this at work on Thursday. Another guy, Bernard Gilkey, Hundley's teammate on the '96 Mets put up career numbersthat year as well.

Hundley had other problems, his mother died of cancer and he took her death very hard, and drank very heavily, which virtually ended his career.

His dream was to be in a World Series with the Mets, and I read a story in a New York newspaper that he blamed himself for pissing away his career.

In 1997, Hundley had 30+ HR's but had elbow problems, and was used sparingly in the second half of the season, and was probably the reason that the Marlins won the wildcard and not the Mets, they finished 4 games back, and he could have been the difference maker, but he was hurt. The next year he had problems with moving to the outfield after they got Mike Piazza, and thats when he went in the tank.....

I agree completely. I had no idea Todd Hundley had those kind of stats. You can always look at the year of 1998 with Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, etc. And of course 2001 when Barry Bonds hit 73 Home Runs. 73 Home runs in one season. Think about that a second. Steroids obviously work. I agree with you on that.

This is exactly why I was so surprised that neither Steve Finley or Luis Gonzales were not in the report as well since similar things happened in their careers. Both of them had 25-30 HR seasons at best and then all of a sudden 50+ HR's in one year. Why do you think Gonzo was able to land that sweet deal that he did when they sent him to Detroit or 'Zona?

And no offense to Yankees Fan I'm a Girl, but it does work like this and Finley, Gonzales, and Hundley (among others) are blatant proof that it will work that fast if you keep up your work out regimen.

Playing at Wrigley contributed to his home run total but the steroids did help.

Something people have to udnerstand is that when you take sterioids, it doesnt mean : BAM 40 HR's. You have to work out just as much as you did without sterioids. Its not like Monopoly when someone lands on your space.
