I've been living on the east coast my whole life and things are so screwed up here, I don't even know where to begin. The weather sucks between nov/dec and march, and the changes just make it harder for you to keep up with yardwork, yadda yadda, the people are mean, materialistic, and violent. Everything is overpopulated like hell, and all in all it just sucks. It's also very fast paced and all about money.

Is live on the west coast/California any different?

I personally want to get the hell OUT of here, and want to try someplace new,but I"m not sure where to go.

California seems like at least open-minded and cool like the NYC metro area is, I don't want to move to some small-minded hick state, but I heard it's got its own problems and might be even worse than the east coast, which is what led me to ask,

What are the PROS/CONS of living out there, compared to here?

Weather is ideal.
People are going to be very open-minded.
People are for the most part very laid-back.
No matter where you go, there are assshole drivers...haha.
Cost of living is insane here, probably about the same as East Coast.
OVEROVEROVEROVER POPULATED

Really, besides there being way too many people I have no complaints about California. It's home and I'll never leave.

The east coast and the west coast may as well be foreign countries, that's how different they are culturally from each other. San Francisco is most like an eastern city, as it is very sophisticated and has great public transportation-- you wouldn't need a car. Forget that in LA or San Diego. As far as the "great weather" goes, it's foggy anywhere near the beach for 4 months of the year. It can be 100 degrees in the San Fernando Valley, and freezing at the beach. People in the counties surrounding these 3 major metropolitan centers tend to be more conservative; not everyone here is "laid-back"..What you see in movies or on TV is a twisted view of the realities of living here. It is very difficult to make friends in LA, even with co-workers. You might find that people in the same office might live 50 or 60 miles away from where you'd be living. You may want to spend a good month here (with a car) before you decide to make your permanent move- a week or two wouldn't give you enough time to let the reality to sink in.

Well on the west coast you have wildfires, earthquakes and mudslides. East Coast you have hurricanes and nor'easters. West coast (San Francisco and parts north has some of the MOST beautiful rugged ocean views I have ever seen. East Coast is more traditional and steeped in history. I have lived in both and love both for all the diverse reasons I have mentioned.

The weather in southern California is the biggest reason that people move here. That said, the real estate prices are outrageous, the traffic is bad unless it's late at night, and the population is dense to the point that you can travel through five different communities and never feel like you've left one city.

nyc is amazing living here for those 16 years of my life makes it annoying when i go to other states since its hard to compare. we have everything here and its easy to get around with the subway and without parents. life is always interesting here and it seems you r just being negative. u seem to be looking more at the negative aspects of life. just take a break for once and enjoy ny like a tourist. i personally hate country life too and cant live without a store at every corner. plus u meet more people here.
