Hi,

By definition, 1 + 1 = 2! You can think of this type of problem as in real life. If you have 1 pencil and your friend gives you another pencil, you have two pencils! =) If you're having trouble with that, you might want to draw out the number line as follows:

0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , . . . . .

Therefore, if you have 1 pencil, start at the number 1 and then move one spot upwards showing that your friend gave you one pencil.

I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

One plus one is two.

Adding numbers is combining them together. So, if you have an apple and you bought another apple and put it with the first apple, then you added the second apple to the first apple. If you counted these together, you'll find out they're two! That's how we add. So why do we need math, that's pretty simple? You're right, but suppose you have 321 apples and 899 apples. Will you count all of these? That's why the rules of addition are there. By the way, the answer of the problem above is 1,220.

P.S.
No, I don't think I'm stupid so I don't think it's likely he's not kidding. If he's not, however, then it's our duty to help him.

1+1=2

You can work out additions by imagining a number line:

0 1 2 3 4 5 ...

imagine starting at 1 and then moving 1 to the right

As a trick question:
Some people say 11 because 1 then 1 could be 11.

Some people say window because the two ones could make the two vertical lines, the '+' could be the cross in the middle, and the '=' could be the two horizontal lines.

In binary math

1+1 = 10

For all other bases, it's 2.

There's a serious answer to a not-very-serious question!
