On myspace, what exactly is w4w and how do you use it?

w4w, short for "whore for whore" is a term used on Myspace by people who use their accounts for promotional purposes.

It's a mutual process where two accounts swap "whore codes" which are html codes for an image link. They post one another's code in a bulletin, saying "Add this person", and when people open the bulletin, they click the image, and they are taken to the user's Add to Friends page, making it quick and convenient for them to make hundreds or thousands of friends.

This technique has become very common on Myspace over the last year, and is sometimes regarded as abusive to the original design/intention of the site, since many kids who are 16 or under will use them just to get friends and attention, but not really for a valid reason or cause. It's also looked down upon because you're arguably overexposing yourself to random people over the Internet, hence the word "whore" is used.

Good luck to you, and have a nice day! :)
