Right side:
4x - (x - 4) = 4x - x + 4= 3x + 4
So, we have:
8x - 6 = 3x + 4
Subtract 3x from each side:
5x - 6 = 4
Add 6 to each side:
5x = 10
Divide by 5:
x=2

I'll explain it if you need to show your work:

What you need to do is to isolate x to one side of the equation. Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign, you have to do to the other. So if you add 5 to the left side, for example, you have to add 5 to the right side....
5x +3(x-2) = 4x - (x-4) first, simplify the equation
5x + 3x - 6 = 4x - x -(-4)
8x - 6 = 3x + 4 subtract 3x from each side
8x - 3x - 6 = 3x + 4 -3x
5x - 6 = 4 add 6 to both sides
5x - 6 + 6 = 4 + 6
5x = 10 divide both sides by 5
x = 2
Now, check your work:
5(2) +3(2-2) = 4(2) - (2-4) ?
10 +3(0) = 8 - (-2)
