There are several potential causes for this and all need to be checked

1. Did you change the wireless connection on the lap top to a static IP from a dynamic IP? If so, change it back to "obtain an IP automatically" status. This is not likely due to seeing zeros as the IP address but check it anyway.

2. Is the wireless radio turned off on the notebook? Sometimes they are set to shut off after not finding an access point. Make sure it is on?

3. What security do you have with the wireless access point? Is it set properly (including preshare key; is the MAC address validation active and is your wireless MAC address installed on your wireless).

Check these first as they are likely causes. If none of these are the cause, you may have a faulty radio on your notebook..

use the 'obtain ip address automatically' feature

in your network connections, right click on the connection and click properties.

under the networking tab, choose internet protocol(tcp/ip) and click properties.

in the new dialog box, check "obtain ip address automatically"
and "obtain DNS server address automatically"

That should do it.
