It's Windows Defender, which is a load of rubbish. In fact, Windows needs defending from Windows Defender.

Uninstall it, download and run CCleaner and then download and install AdAware.

You can disable it from automatically running by:

Start >> Run and type: services.msc

This will bring up a list of services that are running on your computer. Scroll down to Windows Defender and click on it.

Then change its status to Disabled.

You can run it manually at a time that is convenient to you by repeating the procedure and selecting Start.

Then go to Programs >> Windows Defender

and run a scan.

This is Windows Defender. I did a little research and found that this is a common problem with this program. I found one solution that seemed to fix the problem at this site http://geekswithblogs.net/Coleman/archive/2007/03/26/109906.aspx
but it requires you to modify the registry. You might try doing a Windows update first to see if they put out a fix for this problem.
good luck

Windows Defender....a real pain. I had it and it slowed down my PC and wouldn't let some stuff run. Uninstall it. You'll be glad you did.
