Hey! I read all answers and see that all are staying at the most primitive and dense level and that is the materialistic field. ('Personality' for me belongs also to this.) As this is posted in 'philosophy', there should be something more than just this.
Where are all those 'spiritual' and religious people? As far as I remember from school in classes about religion, there was a man Jesus who told people that there is not such a thing like 'death' and he also demonstrated this by showing up alive after he was killed. Well this might be just a nice story to satisfy his followers, as it also belongs to the primitive aspects. But what about the philosophical part of 'eternal life'? In this of course the body is seen only as a changeable form that will be renewed, not really important, because there is a permanent entity and for this there is no death. Sounds good, maybe too good? Or why it is not mentioned when something about it is ask?
Well, this just shows that we live in the first place with a materialistic worldview and philosophy serves to confirm our position. Right? Religion is just the way to manipulate people and to keep them calm. Was’nt it Marx who mentioned this?
Anyway, I was just surprised and was wondering where are all those religious people who usually show up in all occasions.

We, as humans, cannot prevent death, disease or old age but we can often slow their progress - if that's what we truly desire. Some people tend to fight the reality of their situation while others have the capacity to accept these things graciously. All we can do is live the best lives we possibly can and leave a positive mark on this world so that when we are no longer here we can be remembered as someone who was a really special person, someone who loved and cared about others or someone kind, gentle and strong - someone well worth remembering. That way, we would have conquered death, disease and old age because when someone is loved and remembered that person never dies. They live on in another person's heart. Disease has disappeared because there is no more dis-ease. Old age has also passed because the gentle peace and joy that comes when remembering someone precious to us never grows old. Friend, please think about these things and rest in full assurance that death, disease and old age are only fleeting moments in time. "And these, too, shall pass".

I don't think death, disease, and old age can be completely prevented. There are some things progress cannot conquer, such as nature. I don't think we should be able to, really.
But...I also believe that the government probably has cures for some diseases, but that they aren't publicized or utilized since disease is a population control device. Maybe that is a little nuts that I think that--I don't know. I just can't imagine that with the advances that have been made in science and medicine that there AREN'T cures for cancer, AIDS, etc.

Death and old age are the two things we can not prevent, and will never be able to. They are natural causes, the furthest we can go is to lengthen age. This can be done many ways such as diet and exercise. As you will be aware there are so many difference diseases and illnesses, we will surely find cures, but it is just a matter of time. But at the same time we find cures for these dieases we are diagnosing/discovering new ones. Conclusion: All three of these things are factors which we encounter in our lives, and it seems impossible that we will ever be able to dodge them. In my opinion disease, old age and death are all something which are a part of life and always will be, the same way oxygen will always be a part of our breathing...

We can prevent some things by staying healthy. Otherwise, genetics, environment and what we put into our bodies greatly contributes to death and disease. As for old age, that's going to happen whether you want it to or not. Personally, I think that all of us have a time to be born, a time to die. It's just a matter of time. On that thought, live life to the fullest! Live with no regrets! Be happy and help others who are not so fortunate. Otherwise, what is life all about?

Well, at the present stage of evolution we are in , old age, disease and death cannot be prevented.
To prevent oldage, disease and death, one has to raise to a higher level of Consciuosness which Sri Aurobindo and Mother called as Supramental Cosciousness. Both of them taught a new Yoga called Integral Yoga which when practised with utter surrender and sincerity will lead humanity towards deathlessness. But it may take a few centuries for this consciousness to become a living presence among us.

Some problems are best dealt with by not trying to conquer them, but instead, doing away with the need for them. Think of all the other problems that would result if you could snap your fingers & suddenly there was no more death, disease, aging in the world?

We're to greedy and arrogant to prevent disease, penicillin used to be a wounder drug, but now we used it so much bacteria become resit ant to it, and it's back to square one. It's because people aren't happy going to the GP and not leaving with a prescription, that's why we need placebos, or in pure placebos. We can't prevent death and old age, but we can slow it down.

Disease and ill effects of old age can be prevented by healthy life style,be happy and disease-free, but death of course not, as that would be denying the very purpose of life!

What Betsy is saying (above) is exactly 'right on'. It sounds other worldly, maybe even crazy to most people, but she has 'discovered' the fountain of youth!
When we become intimate with our own life, get very close to what is natural, ignoring the mind as it takes us into the future, the past, into constant remembered 'drama', wishing for this and that, etc, we are healed physically. Having an ongoing 'newness' (living close to the 'now/present') refreshes the whole system! Aging comes from wearing out the organism with consternation, and fretting, tension.
There is a certain vigilance required because the mind/brain has habits, ingrained, to strain against 'just being' simple.
When one recognizes that 'old habitual stories' are coming up, use that as a time to breathe in the now-ness of just being natural, simple with yourself. Breathe in and relax with yourself!Just you, here, now...that's all there is, eternally.
