heater core dude

You could have several problems.

1. The coolant in your radiator could be low. Check the level. If it goes low on a regular basis you have a leak that you probably need to address.

2. The heater core could be blocked. This is like a radiator but it is in the heater duct. The air flows past the warm heater core to warm up the air for the cabin. If there is no warm coolant in the core you won't get any warm air.

3. The heater core diverter valve could be broken or the vacuum lines that run the valve could be leaking. This valve is what "diverts" warm coolant into the core. When you select the heater (or select warm on the slider or dial) engine vacuum is applied to the valve to open it and allow coolant into the core.

4. The control unit could have a vacuum leak - this is the part that you use to select heat. Again - if there is a vacuum leak in this unit then the valve in #3 won't work.

Probably #1, #3 or #4 is most likely.

This is very common if you have not flushed out the cooling system and have left the Dex-cool antifreeze in the system for 5 years or over 50,000 miles.

First check the color of the coolant and look at the reservoir bottle and if they are dirty you will have to flush out the complete cooling system.

What happens is the heater core gets clogged up and if this is the problem only flush out with low pressure and replace the thermostat.

If everything goes as plan flush and fill every 2 years or 24,000 miles from now on.

Remeber that the A/C system and the heating system fuction independently from each other. They only share the vents and switches. You probably have a coolant leak somewhere, hopefully not inside the engine, big $$bucks. If you find and repair the problem, try using genuine Mercedes Benz coolant or Audi coolant. It will protect your cooling system better than the factory stuff and keep your repair lasting longer. Good luck!!!

Chec your heater control valve. If your heater core went out you will have antifreeze showing on the inside of your windshield all across the top of your dashboard. The valves are inexpensive and you can replace it yourself.

Your intake manifold gasket leaked all your coolant into the engine oil. Now you probably need a new engine. Sorry

Happy holidays

1. check thermostat (see if radiator is getting hot).
2. Could be the heater core.
You can probably change either one yourself.
