Usually, the number of votes for a question in Astronomy & Space is no more than a few -- maybe 6 at most. I voted for a couple of questions this morning in the "vote undecided questions" section and discovered they had dozens of votes. For example, take a look at this:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkUP1SHNVQurCk9rTvcp5OMBxgt.;_ylv=3?qid=20071221172454AAUV2rj
It had 69 votes at 7:30 AM PST.

What's happening?
1) Massive new interest in A&S?
2) Computer hack into system?
3) Other guesses?

You don't see any votes until after you vote or a best answer is picked by the asker.

By asking about this question, I might be increasing the number of votes (up to 73 now); but that's not the point. I saw this effect in a number of other questions too at the top of the "undecided questions" section.

Aero_engr -- Interesting idea. The numbers are just about right for a science teacher who recommends Yahoo Answers to a few classes.

I was wondering about this myself. Perhaps some teacher is getting his class involved?

ADDED: Hi Autoglide - I'm not sure what you mean - if you are referring to me, I've only taught once - when our local high school physics teacher was laid off - and that was for 1/2 semester. Would like to again, though!

Just a guess, but perhaps the Astronomy and Space section is just getting a spike in traffic with the news of the possible impact on Mars?

That is odd. I've also noticed similar funny business on some questions in other sections of YA as well lately. I would definitely rule out #1.

AERO_ENG: Perhaps some teacher is getting his class involved?

Yes and we all know who that teacher is around here!

Maybe there's just been a huge serge in the A&S category. I don't think it's anything to worry about,

The "who is this person?" question?

I didn't see any votes...
