I work with a very lax boss, who is not organized or structured -- or at least does not extend herself to be so to others

I need structure and organization to work most efficiently. I otherwise have to work in a state of confusion, which leads me to not be productive or efficient. This increases my anxiety level, especially when thinking I may lose my job

I don't want to be a sucker and work late all the time or on weekends, but it's hard for me to concentrate at work. I think best after a good night's rest, and when I'm not commuting in a half-dead mode

This leads me to work on weekends and respond to emails or send emails over the weekend. I'm afraid to be seen as a doormat. I was one at my last job, and they got rid of me. I want to show my value and worth, and make up for times I've shown my anxieties and other weaknesses at work because of the environment

Aside from looking for other employment, how is it best to work to do your job well, but to not be perceived a doormat?

don't work on weekends or respond to emails unless you get compensation for it.
Friday at quitting time, let it go & pick it up on monday morning.
you are not percieved as a doormat (unless they tell you so) you FEEL like one because they dicate your rhythms.

Don't worry about what someone will think of you first off. Be yourself and get the work done however you are most productive and is most beneficial to YOU. I may also talk to your boss and work things out. Your production makes her look good. So I believe if you have suggestions that will increase productivity then she should be all ears. Good luck.

When you leave the job...leave the job behind until you go back. Make sure your boss is aware that you are available and willing to help IF NEEDED, but let them come to you.

You'll soon learn that some managers run their business by kicking back and letting everyone else do the work. That's often the advantage of being "crowned" manager.

I would call a meeting with your boss and the others involved that are making your job harder than it has to be. Implement some change. Be the pioneer and don't be afraid to tell them what your job description entails. Tell them to their faces in a structured meeting, in a polite way, what exactly they are doing to make your job harder than it has to be. Good luck. If the aforementioned doesn't work, just politely tell your coworkers, that isn't listed in my job duties. If they hand you something that isn't right, hand it back and politely tell them to bring it back when they get the right answer because you have your own job to do. Don't be agressive or passive agressive. Be assertive. Like I said, good luck. A person cannot stand up without a spine.

Sounds like you have ADD like me and have a hard time staying on task and focusing. The best way to have it together at work is to find something about your job that you enjoy so that you can 'lose yourself' in your job.

Go to your boss and tell her your problem.
Ask that she give you written directions for one weeks work to see if it makes you more productive.
If you do accomplish more during that week, perhaps she will see that it helps you become a more valuable employee.
Good luck.
