You have a decision that a lot of people would like to have. Those are two great public universities in two great cities.

If you are interested in Engineering and are not from Texas -- go to Georgia Tech. It has the better engineering school. But it is not so much better than if you are from Texas it makes up for the difference in tuition costs

If you are interested in something other than engineering (or certain science fields) then Texas is the superior choice. Of course, if you are from Georgia, the difference in costs may not be worth it.

Socially -- Georgia Tech has a much higher male to female ratio. This may affect your decision.

Faculty: Very accomplished at GT, but often difficult to understand, and not the best at teaching.

UT: Fewer laurels, more personable and accommodating.

Recreation: UT wins hands down. Atlanta sucks as a college town, really hard, whereas Austin is one of the best .

GT: Overall a good private, yet expensive out of state.

UT: Good school, just not the same caliber as GT. Much more of a fun college though.
