The bike is a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600. We're in Kansas, so it's cold out. Duh, yeah I know. When I start the bike, it immediately kicks into fast idle, and I understand that, though I don't like it. But then, after warm-up, while riding, whenever I clutch in and roll off the throttle, it won't drop to normal idle. And whenever I stop at a red light, it'll kick back up to fast idle again. Very aggravating. I've got a call in to the dealer and Kawasaki rep, but so far, no answers...I'm wondering if all this is considered "normal" or if there's a fix for this...in addition, Kawasaki has thoughtfully provided a choke cable and push-pull knob that seems to do absolutely nothing.

Greating from western Kansas, Just an Idea but have you checked the throttle stop. ie: the thumb screw under the grip. I had an older bike that this would snug it's self and not allow the return spring to pull down ot base idle. Fast idle is based on water temp or cylinder temp, a bad sensor can cause this. Also dirty or binding throttle cables, to check this, manually twist the throttle back to closed. Also a dirty throttle blade in the fuel injector body is a normal cause. remove the air cleaner and look for deposits around the outside of the blade and inside the housing, while holding open the throttle. clean with a good carb cleaner. I always start with the simple stuff first. Karl

That "choke" knob isn't a choke at all, it's a fast idle. My old '84 Voyager with fuel injection has the same thing except it's of the lever type. The guy I bought it from owned it for years and never realized it wasn't a choke, in fact he didn't even know it was injected. On my bike, there is one screw adjustment for the warm engine idle speed and another for the fast idle speed. You might ckeck to see it yours has anything similair.

Remember that as an engine gets broken in, the pistons and cylinders get polished up and results in a higher idle speed. That's true for any engine built, not just bikes. If yours is getting broken in well, it's only natural that the warm idle speed needs to be adjusted unless the idle speed is computer controlled. Ask your dealers mechanic about that....I've found that sometimes the fellow at home knows more than the mechanic does.

First of all you must have had another bike but carberated y/n. Your 07 Kaw is fuel injected, first off your 07 will and has to idle highe / above 100 or better. Reason is to keep the oil in the upper part of the motor. Second you are now "COMPUTOR CONTROLED" which means that you may just have to get used to it and enjoy your 2007 Kawasaki.

It just sounds like your idling is turned up way too high.. Check your manual an set it where u want it... Yamaha has a gold colored screw that u simply twist .. Hope this helped.
