Are GLBT really useful and effective in defending the GLBT people's rights? Are they necessary? Should they self-dissolve?

In my country law allows marriage gay, gay people have the same rights as straight people... It seems that every goal of GLBT has been achieved, but there's a lot of work to do to change some people's attitude to homosexuality. So GLBT organizations should keep going on and fighting.

Yes they are. Many a small step forward in our rights were obtained thanks to people who dedicates time and some money to GLBT organizations. These also help us to be united \to make a common front against the anchored homophobia in our society. I am active member of a local association and though quite often I know what we do is just a drop in the ocean, I remember that the ocean is done of many drop, so every drop counts.

Ever heard of the butterfly effect, the flapping of a butterfly wings in Brazil that caused a tornado in Texas...

We should all support GLBT associations to be stronger and obtain more. Too many of us just let others fight for their rights and easily criticize bt do not take part of the fight.

Easy isn't it?

I think the big ones like HRC are useful in that they makes us less of a silent, invisible group. It shows that we really are "for real" and we really do have the numbers. Whether or not they have any sway politically or in our local governments is a secondary concern, to me.

Both HRC and the smaller, local LGBT/GSAs, especially the ones at schools, they can be a fantastic resource for both people trying to find out more about themselves, and people who are looking to make friends with other people like them.

I was in a high-school GSA, and I found it really really rewarding to have a tangible group of kids in my school that I could be honest with. We met off-campus, and had a very strong no-outing rule. It was really invaluable to me, and I really think every gay person, teenager through adult, should have access to a local LGBT group.

If it is HRC you are talking about..........get rid of them. They are about one thing and one thing only, raising money. They have zero concern for anyone who isn't a 100% straight passing conservaqueer and have actually actively lobbied against transsexual civil rights. I know because I am one of a small group that caught them with a red hand holding a smoking gun in the cookie jar doing exactly this in 1997 and 1999

Yes they are useful & effective. Some of the organizations help with HIV/AIDS patients, while others tackle legal issues. I'm sure there are more than those, but the point is that they ARE useful.

I am so torn on that. I don't support Gay Pride Day anymore. I think it be as commercial as damn Christmas. But grass roots community centres, yes, absolutely. They are a cornerstones in the GLBTQ community and are very important.

Do we have gay marriage yet? When I was in the Army I had to sneak around to have gay sex. Has that changed?

In California it is unlawful to discriminate against homosexuals. In most states it is still perfectly legal.

How can you ask such a silly question?
