a female horse = a mare
a female Donkey/Burro = a jenny
a fertile male horse = a stallion
a sterile ( cut ) male horse = a gelding
a fertile male donkey/burro = a jack
a sterile ( cut ) male donkey/burro = ???????
a jack/mare cross = a mule
a stallion/jenny cross = a hinny????????
Though both are genetically sterile does a cut male mule have a term different from an uncut one? Also same question about the male hinny?

I have never known one to be gelded but you would probably call it a gelded jack.

And yes a hinny is when you cross a stallion to a female burro. They are similar to mules, but lack the size, strength and stamina. Therefore they are unpopular. Also few people want to breed good stallions to burro mares because the stallion risks being kicked and getting a broken leg.

I will check with the yahoo answers expert on the subject and get back to you on the cut jack and the questions about a cut mule.

I just checked with mulereiner the resident yahoo answers mule expert. She said that you call the gelded jacks just that a gelded jack and yes you geld male mules as they are sterile but are born intact. So it is a behavior issue.
